Default loss of power

I have a brand new ford mondeo (1 month old) it lost power while driving twice yesterday and the Off light came on on the start--stop button on the dash. It restarted ok on both occasion and I will be taking it back to dealer for advice - anyone else ever seen this problem?

Is it a TDCi? There is a 'problem' with them cutting out occasionally under braking. Think an ECU update is one of the cures - although if yours is a brand new car just take it straight back.

oh wow.1 month. bit of advice, upto you if you take it. Take the car back & get your money back. Some1 will probably say no,it should be sorted etc. Honestly theyre heaps.get rid of it. If you think you've had a bit of bad luck imagine how you'll feel after your warranty expires & stuff starts to go wrong. Dont care what anyone here says, they're rubbish(even the new 1's). Guy along rd from me is a shop owner,& his is 2.5 months old.He just took his back, kicked up hell& got his money back.He also owns garages(2,I think),and is part time mechanic,& he said he only bought it as they offered him an amazing deal on a trade in on his van. worst decision he made,he reckons
go look-up the bad reviews on google. see what i mean.

Haha, they're not heaps, that's utter utter nonsense. As with ALL cars they have faults, but the Mk4 is a very reliable car in comparison to its peers. Google ANY car and you'll find pages of complaints. People only ever post on the internet when they're complaining, so you can't use that as a judge of a car.

HaHa they ARE heaps.total heaps. If I was offered another mondeo(even a mk4) with 60k on clock for a grand Id run the other way. You wouldnt though,as your heads' stuck so far up ford,& you think theyre the best thing since sliced bread.
Maybe you dont have enough doe to get another car,& you HAVE to keep yours, but I dont.Money aint a worry, but what I will say is that Ford aint what they used to be.(injector faults, dmf, clogged this n that, egr's).absolutely ridiculous. And as for saying you cant judge a car by going by complaints.errr yes you can.Its called a bad review mate. They're useless.End of
Dont get me wrong if you're looking for a pain in the a** car that'll just get you from a to b,then buy one. If you're looking for a reliable car, that you can trully call your pride n joy, then swerve them. Ive never had another car, where the injector codes were "forgotten" lol. Hows it possible for ford to design as ECU(or have it designed) like this & still have these problems?Cmon get real

You do realise that you're talking about Mk3 Mondeos, whereas me, and the OP are talking about Mk4s. If you're going to slag off a car, at least slag off the right one.

And I've not got my head stuck up Ford's arse. I just know what I'm talking about.

What are you on?

Let me make this simple for you –*The Mk3 is a completely different car to the Mk4, there are no shared components. The Mk3 can be a complete pain in the arse with the flawed Delphi injection system. The Mk4 is a much more reliable car, with a stronger better PSA engine.

If you're going to argue your point with personal insults, at least have the basic common sense to argue the correct point.

Brand new Mk4 Mondeo cutting out after 1 month! - thats ridiculus

- that will be because of the rubbish PSA (Pug-eot/ Citroen) engine

The Mk3s had to be years old/ done 1000s of miles before serious problems occured

Quite simply, your never going to get a perfect car! thats the nature of a machine! however it shouldn't have happened on such a new vehicle, take it back and ask for it to be sorted. If you have any problems then I would recommend calling consumer advice on what your rights are, as if I am not mistaken, as long as they are going to rectify it then you can't just ask for your money back unless its catastrophic.

Good luck! it seems as though there are some real haters with pointless views on this thread!

Does anyone know where the outside air temp on the dash gets read from because. i have a tddi and sometime the sensor stops working and the car goes into limp mode. Its fixed vane turbo so no MAF sensor is it likely to be the MAP sensor failing ?

As much as I hate to admit it, the PSA engine is massively better than the Ford TDCi.

The air temp sensor is mounted in the bottom nearside of the bumper/grille. it won't be the cause of it cutting it out. Get the fault codes read and take it from there.

hmm any ideas what i could be then because it only happens when the air temp on the dash goes. this only used to happen if you hit a puddle usually, then obviously the sensor would be full of water and stop work so the car goes into limp mode but now the i never get the air temp on the dash and car is permantly in limp mode. is the air temp sensor not linked to the ecu ?

I ran my car with the sensor unplugged and noticed no difference. Try unplugging yours, see if it makes a difference. I'd also strongly recommend getting your fault codes read.

Untill you get the codes its difficult to tell where the fault lies, no temp on the dash indicates a problem with the temp sensor, plug on MAF can again be corroded/ loose, better to check this before paying for another MAF sensor

Yes, the air temp sensor is linked to the ECU, the connections to it may be corroded, loose or come off, if you clean up the contacts/ reconnect it it may be ok

You will need a pre- OBD11 code reader to work on your TDDI (F-super/ Bluefin) an OBD11 one won't work
