As above. I've just built a garage and am now coming to the part where I am kitting it out. I've got plenty of 6x2 left over from the roof joists and am going to build a custom workbench and was looking for inspiration, so let's see them please

Ive one wall with a workbench most of the way along it. Just simple 3x1.5" timber with a kitchen worktop on top.

It's very sturdy, and there's so much junk on top of it it's totally unusable as a bench lol

you have floorspace too ? lol

It's a bit like my bench...although I do have room to walk from the garage door to the drivers door of the car.

Which is ridiculous really, as it's a pretty big garage lol

Although they cost money, second hand catering stuff can be good and come in various shapes and sizes of stainless steel.

But a simple wood bench with a kitchen worktop on top is very sturdy, and the kitchen worktops very sturdy too.

My workbench is pretty small, just 70cm deep and abouth 200 cm wide, and its pretty high, so i have a high chair from a bar with a cozy soft sitting to sit and relax while working on the workbench. I do have a redicoulus heavy steel frame made from 3 inch gaspipe and some steel box profiles, so i have a shelf and a cabinet below the workbench!

My dad has one witch is a meter deep and about 3 meters wide, also a very heavy frame, but also a very sturdy wooden top, about 6 cm thick hardwood, so you can hammer whatever you want. I can hit the workbench so hard the walls start to shake, and it just gets a little dent.i have put a large piece of full rubber conveyorbelt on top of it, also on the floor where you stand, to prevent stains and such.

Next project is to coat the floor, but there has to go a lot of equipment to be moved, two lathes, a xyz mill, welders, cabinets, the workbench, you name it...

Remember youll need a sturdy frame and you dont want to worry if you destroy your top if you miss a blow with your hammer!

It's 12 foot x 17 foot. It was the hay barn at the end of our stables but i kept moaning that she had 6 12 x 12 stables and a 12 x 24 barn, so i blocked some of the barn off and extended it 4 foot making me a garage.

It's not quite so tidy at the mo, i have 2 engines in there, my track tyres and loads of gear as i'm doing a new bathroom!

I'll get a picture tomorrow, but we have a wooden bench, 4/5ft long by 2 ft wide, next to that is the lathe, then pillar drill. One of the sides has old kitchen units etc, sink, racks for books/manuals, the other just has a few shelves and power tool cabinet.

Not much room with 3 bikes, my Escort, a couple of engines etc
