My workbench is pretty small, just 70cm deep and abouth 200 cm wide, and its pretty high, so i have a high chair from a bar with a cozy soft sitting to sit and relax while working on the workbench. I do have a redicoulus heavy steel frame made from 3 inch gaspipe and some steel box profiles, so i have a shelf and a cabinet below the workbench!
My dad has one witch is a meter deep and about 3 meters wide, also a very heavy frame, but also a very sturdy wooden top, about 6 cm thick hardwood, so you can hammer whatever you want. I can hit the workbench so hard the walls start to shake, and it just gets a little dent.i have put a large piece of full rubber conveyorbelt on top of it, also on the floor where you stand, to prevent stains and such.
Next project is to coat the floor, but there has to go a lot of equipment to be moved, two lathes, a xyz mill, welders, cabinets, the workbench, you name it...
Remember youll need a sturdy frame and you dont want to worry if you destroy your top if you miss a blow with your hammer!
