Ka 1.3 Rally Car Build LHD
Okay so I will begin my second build (the first was a Mk1 Mini)
I have an Ex- KA Championship Left hand rally car
Thing is it is in complete pieces
and not all the parts are there

So I collected the car and it looks like this:

After getting all the parts out, filled the Ka and my focus with Ford racing bumpers and general shite
Then I began to inspect the 1.3 engine: High Comp pistons, 285 Spec Camshaft, 3 angle Valves and Seats, higher IB springs and lightened flywheel
And this is what it looked like when i got it:

With a general check on measurements crank float etc all was good
Then the engine was sent to Scholar Engines for a clean up so here goes:
- New Piston Rings - New Shells - New Gaskets and Seals - A Hone - Crank Polish and thorough clean

So relapped valves and started to rebuild the head. Had OCD on keeping it all clean, tools the lot:

Then began to clean the pistons:

Spent a day cleaning the engine cases, crank bolts, push rods etc:

Then bagged everything up ready for final build at another location, fully mapped ECU, and speedline Corse wheels

Excellent a few questions:
Was the immobilser activated as i havent got a key?
What power am i expecting some say 90 some say 100, honestly i was hoping for 95?
I currently run with Tony Clements Evo at the moment and just wanna drive myself!
Thanks lee

to be honest, we had many many issues with ECU and wirning, kept melting pistons!
this is the reason it retired as we changed ECU`s, injectors, etc etc etc even complete harness!(i later found he`d been having the heads skimmed to death without saying anything.........)
PATS was removed as it was origional Motorsport ECU, well it was a new bought car to be fair.
i personally, would fit a 1.4 Zetec....... the 1.3 is just pitiful matey all IMO ofcourse
we were close with Chris Birkbeck rallying and they did the 1st conversion with bits from us, car was a totaly amazing, well balanced grin machine!
they were "about" 100bhp, never felt like it, but would still put a grin on your face

To be honest, i was seriously considering the conversion but considering the engine was so good, and didnt cost much to get it rebuilt I thought id get the use out first, get the car built and then go from there.
The reason i asked about the ECU is because it looks like an original ECU (silver case) unlike the black Ford Racing ones i have seen so was a little confused

okay so today I got on with assembling the bottom end considering i have never done this before took me a while to get as far as I did nevertheless i bloody enjoyed it
serious cleaning OCD though

okay so to begin: Retapped and freshened up all the threads including water pump etc etc

A swift brake clean, clearing galleries etc etc

Then i checked the ring gap for all 3 rings in all 4 bores

Had to do some filing as some were a lil tight

Ready for assembly

Inserted new shells

I used grathogen not oil as the engine is going to be standing for a while
In with the crankshaft

A torque down

then assembled the timing chain and end covers with brand new seals and gaskets

This was enough for one day, so will continue tomorrow as i have still got to get the sump bolts

The project is not being undertaken, well not by me anyway as i believe its to expensive to build to a respectable state, plus the cage is being used for another KA and the master cylinder has corroded so its not continuing
