Bonus Turbo insurance question
Hi everyone im kinda new here
... im looking to buy another Ford very soon, and im stuck for choice between a Escort Rs Turbo S2... a Fiesta Zetec-s Mk5 .... or a Bonus with Rst running gear, i have up to £2k to spend, but would prefer only spending up to about £1.6k so i have some money left over for petrol and/or parts.
My question is, how are you guys insuring bonus turbos? as a 1.1/1.3 with a turbo ,, a 1.1 bonus .. or 1.6 rs turbo powered bonus ?
And can you get in much trouble if you get caught driving a turbo'd bonus, if its logged/insured as a 1.1/1.3 ?...
Thanks for your help

if you dont declare the modifications, your insurance will be void.
thats 6 points and a fine.
plus if you have an accident can you cover the costs?, as your insurance wont pay out.

This is why I drive my £500 works van now, mate was hit the other day and the woman asked can be phone the police in a hour so she can get insurance.... Good lad phoned em before he got out the motor, boss just paid £1200 for the van to be fixed
As for the insurance, I spoke to flux before and just told them it was an escort with rs turbo engine, no problem and was actually cheaper than my rs turbo

I've painted a popular not long ago sent the details to the dvla and the changed the log book same with the engine although I had to get it looked over and signed letter to say it was done properly at a garage it was little hassle to be fair the log book says ford escort popular 1.6 turbo now, I spent to much money for someone to say insurance void.

Ok thanks guys, i just thought as there were so many of these bonus turbos about nowadays, maybe some people keep them insured as a 1.1/1.3.,.. iv never insured a car before so dont know whats legal and whats not...
So basically just tell the insurance company im getting a quote with, that it would be a ford escort with a rs turbo engine.,... and im sure Flux dont insue drivers under 25 anymore ?
Thanks guys

thing is a rst be it escort or fiesta is not a everyday car where as the zetec s is, as it has thing like power steering and all mod cons, the RST/FRST are more a enthusiasts car which is why they are covered under classic car insurance nowadays, and not telling your insurer about engine mods etc is asking for a one ticket to trouble as only a mug or a thug would risk other pedestrian/drivers safety with a illegally insured car
Thatks for the info , only reason im wondering about bonus insurance is because a 1.1 would be a lot cheaper to insure than a 1.6 turbo... but if thats illegal, then scrap that idea lol....
i live in a low crime area, car will be garaged most of the time , il have my parents on the policy too ( named drivers ) ... iv got a few places to phone up... and would potentially have up to about 2.2/2.3k to spend on insurance.
would you say it would be easier/cheaper to insure a zetec-s rather than a escort/fiesta turbo ? as most classic polcies require you to be 25+ ...and im only 22....
