Default Help! Keyless start, cant find key, car going!

Am in real need of some help here!

My wife hired out a Ford Focus diesel yesterday to go on a long trip. Well she is back but she has just found out that she cant find the key fob thing that needs to be in your hand to start the car as it is push button start. We have turned the car inside out and still cant find it! What is the radios on these keys as it maybe in the house.....House is about 15ft from the car. The car is still starting though and I drove it about 600-700 yards down the road and pulled over, pushed the button to stop the car, left it about 1 minute then pushed the button again and it started??!!

I am dreading that we wont be able to find it as the car has to be back tomorrow morning and the hire car company will charge some stupid amount for a new key fob thing.

Any help on...... 'Does the key need to be within a certain distance and how far is that distance to start the car' would be great.

It is in the car. Look between the seats and in little spaces within falling distance from pockets.

They will do but only within a certain time.

If the key was not nearby it would show a message on the dash "key not present"

Bloke on the FRSOC lent his Mk2 FRS to his missus, she dropped him off at work but he still had the key. When she went to park she realised she didnt have it but was able to start the car again as she not long switched it off.

Has as been mentioned a above. The key is, in all likelihood in the car.

Be wise to look under both front seats or by the side where the seats meet the console where the handbrake is etc.

Thats true, but you don`t have long time to do that.

From what you've said, I'd say the key is in the car somewhere!

Thanks greatly for fast replies and help.

We have both been on missions trying to find this key fob thing and cant find it anywhere in the car but yet after the replies it has to be in there. I have had the rear seats out, ducts under the front seats out with hands down as far as they can, my small but very bright torch to look down the sides of the seats as well as push my hands down and still no joy. Next step is......Front seats out! The car is only a few months old being a '12' plate so carpets etc are gleaming which is helping the search, unlike some of my cars in the past when I have bought them and under the seats etc are just full of dust and crap!

Try the back of the seat where it meats the base. I've lost one in there before.

Rear seats removed, front seats removed.......It was down the side of the passenger seat but would never have found it without taking the seat out! So this Focus that is only a few months old has had all her seats taken out, what a sight that would have been for the car rental people!

Thank you so much for help.....So glad it is now found.

For future reference they would have charged you about Ł100 for a new key plus any extra days rental you incurred while the spare key gets posted from head office, used to work in car rental.

Told you it had to be in the car.

I was on a course when i worked for Toyota. I had just driven back from course to my home in 7 hours. I cleaned all my rubbish out of the car and put it in the bin.I went to lock the car and couldnt find the bloody keys.I looked everywhere.

I put them in the bin by mistake lol.
