Not jus BM owners. Any car that uses a keyless entry/start is at risk.

i get so annoyed with the rude cow, they make out that bmw are bad for not telling everyone it could happen,i wouldnt either, least they seem to be trying to stop it
nothing is ever totally secure
remember those guys who were going to EU dealers getting keys made then driving them off in the UK
it isnt like the 80/90 with fords until everyone has a key programmer and they are disappearing from every other road

they also said the device costs 6k which is alot of shit.try under 100.
also dont mention the fact the alarm has a fault and doesnt pick up the window getting smashed and hand going in to obd port.
Surely it wouldnt be hard for bmw to add or move sensors in the car so at least the alarm goes off.

All modern obd ports, require 2 main lines of communication for the ecu a power and an earth. a simple discrete switch, or removing the fuse for the power, will render the obd port usless

The Idea of a real key (physical one) has been around so long because......... it works.

Digital security much newer, and still tends to have floors in it! It has the potential to be better, but physical security is essential.

The only real defense is a tracker otherwise you low loader it, then connect the device directly to the wires bypassing the obd port away from the place it was nicked! (you don't care if the alarm goes off then! push start = push steal.

The cars made up to this time required a real key as well as a transponder. Both had to work.

friend of mine had heis keys swapped on a test drive of two guys who where interested in building it. Gave him a generic looking M5 key and came back during the night a took it with the real key.

They'll always find a way to steal what they cant have.

Trackers are no better ! Cars still get nicked and you can buy jammers for little money ! Best still is a little switch hidden away and connected to an eartf on Ecu or coil pack but if they still won't it thell still take it
