Car Auction - Quick Question
I'm on the hunt for a people carrier, been going through the usual suspects, small ads, Autotrader etc, but found nothing that I've liked yet. So, had a look on a local car auction website, and saw something that I could be interested in, 52 plate Galaxy Ghia 1900 td, 127k, so hhere comes my question. Does anyone have an idea of how much something like that would normally go for at auction, or is it just dependant on the night? Just so I know as to whether its worth me, or someone I know, having a bid on the night.
Thanks,
Thanks,
depends on the night; ive been to a few auctions whereby ive marked down what i want to bid & what it books at
sometimes ive bought them well under book, other times they've gone massively over book

its a risk remember (guy on here got had up on a golf last week)
but ive seen loads of 02ish scenics doing 300-500 with leather etc, i only want an interior but i may go buy a couple of cars and take a gamble
go to a few auctions before hand to get a feel, the regulars will be a good tell too, last one i went to 1 guy bought atleast half the cars, if he didnt take any interest it could have been wafty, if you put thet much money thru a sale room i expect you get a little more info than jo smow from cocamo
lots are straight from main deals too now that doesnt mean its perfect but does mean it wa sgonna go under the hammer either way not just because the engine is about to fall out

also which auction?
out our way theres millions of eastern europeans but they never seem to pay, they all got excited with a 07 titX mondeo the other day (clearly fake miles as it had no smoking stickers- taxi) and they only took it to 800 before they dropped out
it did £1600 in the end, they bid the tenners til its about half its value then do one

I would say about £2500 in auction with that miles depends on condition
and s/history.
I had mine valued in july's glasses guide same car but 51 plate the range was bottom book was £1800, top book £3095 .

Thanks for the advice so far, I won't be going alone, will have a couple of people with me who've done it before. Its just the Galaxy I'm interested in, been to look at a few at dealers etc, and after being pissed about with a twat of a seller today, I just figured the auction might be worth a punt.
most auction houses put a list of motors on its website before the auction so you can decide if you want to go or not.
in the windows of most cars will be a sticker with very basic details, but the important bit on that sticker is who has submitted the car for auction. be careful if it says private and sold with the letters A/S
A/S stands for as seen - no comebacks
G/O stands for good order, it means you get your money back if it has a major mechanical problem, but it doesnt give you long to check the car over!
alot of main agents put their stuff through auctions so look at cars which have come from main agents

In England, company cars as well as taxis are supposed to display No Smoking stickers.
That always struck me as a bit of a silly rule- I'd pick up a car in Milton Keynes with stickers and could remove them when I reached Gretna.
I suppose that, technically, I should have put them back next time I went south of the border but figure I would have a good defence in that my car was normally up here and we don't need the sticker.

i know i have one in my van but in my experience co cars haev them in the front or as a tax disk holder and taxis have them in rear door windows (as this was) advertising to punters not to smoke

i expect its to make it easier to nick people for smoking in co vehicles
if you get pulled and you have a sticker you are banged to rights, if you have no sticker you are equally caught red handed
i personally hate smoking thus i say ban it totally and 6 months inside for smoking near children
didnt we go off topic

Set your budget and stick to it,don't go over.
Find the fees out first as they can be really pricey, usually at least £100-150 on something like that around £1500.
Have a look at gumtree first though,I've seen stuff going through auctions lately thats going for more than you can buy it straight from the paper, plus of course you haggle down not up in there.
The auctions seem to be full of the public trying to make a few bob on stuff from there without really researching what sells although this is driving prices right up.
