Hi guys,
I've come here looking for some advice as I have a potentially very costly issue with my Ford Mondeo Mk3 2001 TDDi.
I was driving on the dual carrigeway last Sunday evening when all of a sudden the engine seemed to cut out or jolt for a second. This was followed by complete lack of power and then the engine shut down completely and I had to coast to a standstill - luckily right by a layby.
I tried starting it and although it could crank quite happily, it wouldn't start for love nor money. I left it a few minutes and it started just fine. However, the same issue happened a couple of miles down the road and again, the engine cut out. I was able to coast to the next layby and called out RAC who plugged in the diagnostics computer and came up with the following codes:
P0148
P1664
P1564
I was quoted £1600 for a new fuel pump as the RAC guy advised that this was likely going to need a new one. However, I wanted to come here for advice as my car isn't worth that much or indeed, even if it was around £1000 for parts and labour it wouldn't be worth it.
Has anyone seen these codes before and if so, going on the above information, does anyone know exactly how much work this is going to require?
Thanks,
R

there used to be a guy called "diesel doctor" or something like that, google it, and he claimed to be able to fix bosch vp30 fuel pumps for around £150iirc.
Also might be worth giving richard brothers in redruth a bell as they're usually a knowledgable lot!
I have seen one with damage to the loom where it had rubbed through, cant remember where but it was pretty obvious once the inlet was removed, might be worth checking it.
