I don't know about anpr but if you get your road Tax online the site knows if you have insurance & MOT by checking a database so would of thought they all use the same info !!
I'd get her to run it in to a garage at her mums !!!

they ususally wouldnt bother
i know a few people who forgot and woman in teh village did this week (father inlaw is doing her mot)
they will report you for it but then you go get an mot done and tell them and it wont go any further
they wont take you to court for it if you are a stand up person and you got it sorted asap

i got done once and got a £20 fine via court, and no costs and costs would have been £45 lol cheaper than the mot itself thats was and i never did mot it

get it booked in where she is but if she gets pulled and say 'oh yeah im sorting it next week' expect to get bent over as its different to not knowing
and its rare (ive never seen it myself) to have insurace based on an mot, roadworthyness yes not mot (here comes the arguement )

i went to both the kendal ford show and santa pod with no mot on my cossie and was fine lol if she gets pulled tell her to act dumb and she will probably be fine
me and a few mates have been pulled for it in the past and been told to mot it within 7 days and then go station to prove so you should be fine allthough it only takes a twat to pull you to make it a different story!

I got pulled in my vw passat just before my birthday last year, someone had put the wrong bulb in the rear so my third brakelight was always illuminated.

I thought i'd got two months mot still turns out it was around 2 months out of date. I had my picture taken by the police officer, got a £60 fine and that was it. Left to carry on my journey for the rest of the night. I paid the fine and that was it.

if you look here at direct.gov it says

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...Mot/DG_4022108

The penalty for driving a vehicle on the road with an expired MOT certificate is a fixed penalty notice from the police, currently £60, or a court fine up to a maximum of a £1,000.

I'm sure I saw on "Traffic Cops" that no MOT was a non endorseable fixed penalty of £60

Just a fine and get told to get it done immediately. Not in the same league of punishment as no insurance.

but saying that if you crash your car and the insurance company find out it has no MOT does that mean they can/will refuse to pay out?

I would say the consquences of not having an MOT could turn out to be a lot more serious than just a £60 fine.

Seeing as they dont pay out over stupid things like changing the fag lighter for a halfords ripspeed item, then id say yes

An MOT cert isn't proof of road worthiness. There are many cars out there with a certificate that should be nowhere near the road.

If you had an accident with no MOT 9 times out of 10 the insurance company will refuse to payout on the basis the car is not 'Road Worthy'. If an MOT isnt proof of road worthiness what is the purpose of it?

The reason there is so many cars with MOT's that shouldn't be on the road is backwards MOT testers IMO, if this country didn't have MOT's in place the condition of cars on the road would be shocking!!

IF such a situation were to arise then yes, for sure.

However, in the case of just being pulled for having being flagged for no MOT, then it is most likely you will suffer a fine only.

I think also in terms of getting pulled, they will give it a check over, the likes of tyres and lights, simple things. If its a heap of shit, they will take it, but if they see no reason to take it and think its safe to carry on then a £60 is all you'll get.

Obviously, they will be more thorough in terms of checking it over if its an older car thats rarely seen on the road compared to something less than 10 years old or something fairly common.

Are ALL police vehicles fitted with ANPR now?

But VOSA themselves state that an MOT is only relally valid at the time the car is presented for test.

You could MOT a car with steel wheels and legal tyres, drive it home and put your bald 17" alloys on. At that point the car isn't roadworthy but it has just been given a fresh ticket.

I've seen so many cars with 6 months MOT remaining that shouldn't be on the road because the owners are thick as shit, but it won't get pulled until 6 months later when it goes for its next MOT (such people are the ones who never service a car so it would never get picked up in the meantime).

Just get her to book it in near her mums mate if the car is legal she will have nothing to worry about.
