mines having very similar problems and even with a tow it wouldnt start. been told it could be the fuel distributor thats gone
edit: this was after the engine started first time about an hour b4 and the engine was still luke warm wen we had to tow it

i've tried mine today. theres a spark, but not a brilliant one. cleaned the contacts on the dissy to no avail. battery is now charging on mine as it was notably drained after numurous (sp) attempts to start it

Checked spark, no spark... but spark from coil is o.. so got to be either cap, arm or dissy
Been down halfords and as usual in stock

All CVH's (and Zetecs for that matter) are favourites for losing a lot of voltage thru bad leads. This always shows up in starting when cold/damp .. The old favourite for a CVH that was iffy to start in the cold/damp, was to change the cap/leads, and check the R Arm for tracking/burning.
Also, the amplifier can just fail "out of the blue" If you stressed it in some way, plus it got cold/wet, this also could have failed (about tenner from factors)

Burning/cracking of the rotor arm means either coil overvoltage (which is unlikely) or arcing heat damage (like you get on the brush holders/commutators in the vacuum cleaner or power drill) Usually a poor contact prob, oil, or very high resistance in lead set (very wide plug gaps could even help cause it)
Most cases, just fit a new decent Rotor Arm mate

ahhh
was probably the oil then, the dizzy seal leaks a little bit so you get a ting bit of oil in the cap sometimes, but got new dizzy now but cant get the fooker to start
ta very muccle

Got it started
Thought, fook it, change the plugs
it was the plugs
bit strange all 4 failing at the same time
But atleast it ya got it fixed and it's always worth changing the dizzy cap and rotor arm. and the fact that the rotor arm snapped when you removed it is dodgy

max
the reason it snapped is probably because of the way i removed it
but your right, worth changing anyway. I think it was flooded
So rather than clean the existing plugs, easier just to change them
I always assume the worst... bonus when its a cheap fix
Cheers for you help mate
