Burning/cracking of the rotor arm means either coil overvoltage (which is unlikely) or arcing heat damage (like you get on the brush holders/commutators in the vacuum cleaner or power drill) Usually a poor contact prob, oil, or very high resistance in lead set (very wide plug gaps could even help cause it)

Most cases, just fit a new decent Rotor Arm mate
