Default Anyone have asthma????

The doc gave me a Becotide250 to take twice two times a day plus twice two times aday serevent Seems a fooking lot to me...but he said we go in way OTT to stop it then we cut down......he didthiscause i only ever used the ventolin pump....and i noticed i started to use it 4 times a day plus i just feel so unfit at the mo but apparently its asthma.

My peak flow rate is 740 when i take it after the ventolin which apparently is very good ....i been monitering and once it starts to decline say to 600 i use ventolin...hopefully al this med works...nothing worse than not being able to breathe properly

I use Becotide , Ventolln & Seretide 50 & when its bad Seretide 100.
Diagnosed 15 years ago have learned to live with it. This year hads been a bad year & it gives me probs most mornings. Welcome to the club.
Only advice try not to panic if you have a bad attack, let the people trying to help do the panic-ing.
Rod
ps. Forget the constant monitoring its just up-setting & dont help in any way. You will know when you need Ventollin. Agree nothing worse than not being able to breathe, have collapsed on a couple of occasions & that was scary, mainly for the missus, but its rarely fatal so best not to worry only makes it worse.

i had asthma for 15 years, then went to a local witch doctor ( natutal remedy herbalist type thingy) who did some tests and she said to totally keep off dairy products and sugar, now bear in mind i had this for 15 years, within 2-3 days of following this my attacks went, totally, thats after using becotide/ventolin in spray form and capsule etc etc for years and years, being took into hospital etc, it really worked . after staying off for a coule of months i started to have dairy/sugar again and it never returned, mine used to be brought on by running, that was about 10yrs ago and i have NEVER EVER had it again since then, the docs said i would grow out of it , they sai the becotide would help etc etc , bollox , none of that happened, it got worse and worse until i stopped the dairy stuff, that bit of advice change dmy life from then on joined the para's after that and was all gravy from then on

try stopping the dairy and sugar phil for a week and see how ya get on , ya never know it could work for you too

I have had asthma since I had micoplasmic pneumonia in 1988. I find when I am really tight a short course of Prednisolone helps to get my breathing back to normal. I do about 850 peak flow at best and 350 at worst.
I am just on Ventolin 100mg puffer now.

Ive had asthma since i was 2, had a few bad attacks when i was growing up and during my mid/late teens depended heavily on ventolin, then when i turned 20 i thought i'll go and see what can be done before i became immune or something, i was put on Seretide 250 twice a day which drastically reduced my symptoms and the last time i went for my 6 monthly check up i got put onto the 100 dose, i have only used 2 ventolin's in the last 8 months, bearing in mind i used one a month before, so it's definetly worth sticking to.

Ps, Always clean your teeth and mouth wash after taking it cos it rots them to fook and gives you bad heart burn if you don't.

Cheers guys for the support

Its a fooking scary disease imo...it appears the new meds are working but i appear to be overbreathing as i just aint used to having such clear airways It seems i still think i am having an astma attack even though i am blowing 740 on the flow meter I used to just get out of breath quickly for a good while now so i guess i am just getting some kind of anxiety anout it LOL.

Phil, are you a mouth or nose breather?
An awful lot of asthma sufferers (me included) are mouth breathers.
When I feel tight, I force myself to breathe through my nose, and it helps big style.
It is something to do with CO2 retention, and works similar to the brown paper bag remedy for hyperventilation

ive had it since i was a baby . im now on serovent , beclomethazone ,salbutamol and have to visit my gp once a month to go on a nebuliser to help clear the lungs .
it is pretty bad at the moment and its stopping me from sleeping thru the night .
i find the quickest way to ease the breathing if the inhaler doesnt work very well is to crunch myself up on my knees and breath thru my nose . or wrap up warm and go outside and breath cold fresh air .
i was once hospitalised for 2 months after having a chronic attack , my heart stopped beating and i stopped breathing for just over 3 minits . apparently i was classed as clinicly dead . fortunatly my dad revived me by breathing for me for a couple of minutes so i owe my old man my life .
phill , dont worry bout it too much m8y after a few seconds of really struggling to breath its just like falling to sleep , its almost a relief when it happens (morbid i know but its the best way to describe my experience) .

My wife has asthma really bad and on top of that she's allergic to anything with asprin in it. For those of you that don't know asprin ingredients are in about 75% of all foods natural and manmade. Plus it's in all preservitives. There have been nights where I could blow 800 and she could only muster 250. That was a hop in the Cos and close your eyes we'll be at the hospital in no time night. It kills me to see her go through it but I don't let her see that it bothers me because I don't want her to feel she's a burden. Just don't give up. It could always be worse

whitneyd , it is harsh , most people dont realise how bad asthma can be or how much it can effect peoples lives . Its nice to read that you understand and care for her tho

phill , the serovent is a steriod that is sposed to somehow effect the breathing tubes so i guess as with all steroids there can be some nasty side effects . i havnt heard any bad stuff about it from my gp but i spose he wouldnt say anyway
i personally dont think it does shit anyway the only thing that really works is the nebuliser , i feel like i can run a marathon after using that .

markk . its fuckin annoying having to pay for it all the time ,
has anybody else noticed how the new " cfc free " inhalers run out quicker , block up all the time and dont work at all when they get low

I've got cystic Fibrosis and use the same inhaler, I can't really notice the difference, but I do have to take it before physio twice a day

But when I have lung functions ect it takes it from babout 70 odd % to sometimes 90 odd%! So it must work!

My wife and I had a long talk the other day with a specialist in Milano. We were concerned about the fact that they have her on Cortisone all the time. He told us that Cortisone has gotten a bad rap because of lazy doctors. They would rather use cortisone than find the real problem. He told us that right now with the problems she has that she needs to be on a small dose of cortisone at all times. He said that the side effects will be minimal and that he will have her checked out every 6 mounths to make sure it's not effecting any of her major organs. We planned on trying to have a child this year but they told us we should hold off one more year so that she could go through some type of therapy that will give her immune system a boost to kick the allergies then they can fight the asthma. My advise to anyone with medical problems is to talk to doctors not the internet. My mother-in-law is alway going on the internet and and trying to find out what's wrong with everyone and she's never right.

james , i know one thing buddy , i would rather have asthma than have to go thru what you do m8

i have to use my inhaler at least 4 times a day at the moment sometimes 5 or 6 . mostly at night time . i have to squirt the salbutamol , then the beclamethasone then the serovent twice a day as a form of preventative . it allways gets better in the summer months tho so roll on summer

one thing i will say is swimming is a really good thing to do if you suffer from asthma , thats why im heavily into my watersports

Bloody hell Brad.....i guess aslong as you take all the meds you are 100% safe from actually having a major attack....Cant imagine what it would have been like in the old days before all this

Whitenyd....yeah i chatted with the doc about all this,he dont seem too concerened LOL...i guess aslong as i take the meds i am fail safe...I am learning to treat ventolin as my saviour now dont go anywhere without it!

since the age of five , i cannot leave the house without my inhaler EVER

beena junky for 25 years man !

brad,
markk . its fuckin annoying having to pay for it all the time ,
has anybody else noticed how the new " cfc free " inhalers run out quicker , block up all the time and dont work at all when they get low

been on the same type of inhalers for approx 20 years now , the docs try to get me to change it all the time , worked it out dose for dose , then pound for pound , and it would work out that i pay the same amount an get considerably less medicine , and the new ones are crap so im told
