Default Underbody respray

How much are people paying for an underbody respray including some light prep work?

I'm going for body colour, only surface rust in a couple of places - very light but will need a load of road crap removing and wants the underseal tidying in some places where it has started to peel at the edges.

Also, if anyone has a dolly for moving a bare shell around that they are finished with let me know as I'm looking to buy one, car is a sapphire cosworth.

Cheers

Depends how much of the stripping you do yourself, but would have thought you would have to budget a couple of k to get it done to a good standard, I personally did my own as it isn't to hard if you have the space, although I did it in stages, and have done all the front and the central floor, just got to drop the beam and tank and finish it off another winter, hopefully next year. But to do it properly the bits you need do start to add up. No good painting the floor unless you tidy everything else up as well.

I've done all the stripping myself, can't see it costing a couple of grand for just the underside. I would do it myself but I'm pretty tight on space at the moment.

All running gear is currently being prepared for powder coating etc

Cheers

i personally would charge as much if not more for an underside respray than for the outer body at my body shop as it is that time consuming to do, but as mentioned above is doable diy for a lot less money but again is still incredibly time consuming
and i guarantee you will find some rot at least, especially as you mention peeling underseal as there is only one thing that causes that,,, ROT!

It's SO time consuming as mentioned, that I think if you had to add it up hourly, it would be VERY expensive. Luckily I done most of the stripping myself, and a good deal on the rest of the work

Once you see it done, it's worth every penny though!

I resto'd a lad's 3dr last year on my front garden it's not so bad if you've got all the tool's / good quality sealer

changed the rear diff crossmember for a 4x4 one re built the front jacking points
he prepped the floor with red scotch after scrapping the under seal off
it was etched , primer fillered then base and clear coated

here's a few pics

I agree it is very labour intensive, I now have a quote I'm happy with anyway. The painter I use is now 2 hours away due to me moving away recently but the costs for moving the shell will be worth it. Not keen on getting the whole car painted by someone more local that I've never used before, very fussy with my paintwork! The peeling underseal is only around the jacking points, the rest is very good. I am lucky enough to have an extremely solid shell now after the last nightmare.

Cheers

Three coats of clear

fortunately the wind was low and the sun was out so didn't make a booth
I did paint it using low pressure though to keep overspray to aa minimum
