Not quite sure if this is true or not but years ago i was told that the lead in the batteries is not a very high grade, could be wrong but i'm sure that's what i was told.
You don't get any more for taking out either the lead or acid. They go to a battery recycling plant that re generizes the acid and sells it back to the battery industry. They also recycle the plastic as that has a decent value these days. Nothing is wasted.
Price is dependent on where you are.
I get 75p per kg on lead
Batteries is slightly less.
Prices have gone down recently so it might be worth hanging on to them till the price goes back up.

Lead price isn't brilliant at moment, batteries are still very strong. A few years ago, you couldn't even give them away.

I am a scrap metal merchant, I had a load of copper stock piled. When I went to weigh it in I found out copper dropped from 4500 to 2500. Horrified isn't the word for it.
I'm in the southwest so my prices will always be lower.
I can get a better price if I take it up north.

you know what takes the piss, i think we have to pay on average 3 quid a battery to have a licenced company turn up and collect a 3 bins of around 60 batteries a time as we need to prove we dispose of them in the correct manor with paperwork of a company who recycle them ect and all they do is sell the batteries on for more cash and they turn up every few weeks for a large batch and ALL garages and main dealers are tied into this rule or we get a fine
same with oil too, we have to pay to have that taken out aswell
we had a technican at work caught recently as he was nicking 10 old batteries every 2 days and weighing them in, he was being sensible(ish) and not taking too many,,,, it was the company who collects them who flagged it up as they never got a call for 3 months as the waste bins never got filled up

if your company wants to weigh the batteries in and get paid for them legally. The proper way to do it would be to get a waste carriers license. This costs about £100 and lasts 3 years. Issued by the environment agency and available on line. You would then have to fill out a duty of care consignment note if you are transporting more than 3 batteries at a time. This is because batteries are classed as hazardous waste. If you're getting as many batteries as you say you are, Then it would be a no brainer.
