Default Veg oil £5 for 5 litres asda

As above, spotted last night, not a bad saving over pump, about 40%,gonna shove some in the tranny when I get back to scotchland as apparently it causes a system flush which can block your derv filter up a bit, don't fancy changing it at the side of the m80!!!!

Mines a 98 transit mate, made for veg oil!!!
I'd mix it 50/50 anyway, possibly with some heating oil from work,we use that in everything including brand new stuff, pretty sure it's just red, shoved a load in the tranny before and it ran better than ever!!!

If it's a mechanical fuel pump then it will run it, but mix it 50/50 with diesel.

Cheers

thanks Ran, but i don't know if it is or isn't. i haven't got one, but have seen one for sale and was wondering about having it as a winter car so running it on the cheap and smelling of a chip shop would be ideal.

I think they are mechanical pumps in them so cam run on whatever c

The newer cars are all fly-by-wire and dont take too well to veg due to tolerances

If it's got the vm diesel motor then it's veg friendly, think it's in pre 98 models?

is it really worth the risk

paying £1 per litre instead of £1.40 and running the risk of:

blocking fuel filters, breaking lift pumps and injection pumps.
driving around stinking of veg oil
having to fill out all the paperwork for HMRC - if required.
cold starting problems

fair enopugh if you can get used cooking oil for peanuts or free but i wouldnt buy veg oil for that purpose.

i love threads on veg oil and people saying you carnt use it on modern stuff we look after stuff at work that run 100% like golden west and sony daf even ok 100% and golden west run it there LF65 which is commen rail too its all in the tank heater system from what i can see! if the oil is heated and the same viscosity as diesel and totaly clean it wont clog any thing (put it in thick and cold with shit in it you will obviously have problems) the only daf aids we have with golden west (mcdonalds transport company who make there own from resturant oil) is in the cold if the driver dosent turn the tank heater system on or there is a fault with it

You can use it on 'modern stuff' if that modern engine has been adapted to run it as you pointed out. But you can't just chuck veg in any diesel car and expect it not to cause problems.

thats the problem right there, veg oil isnt the same viscosity as diesel, passenger vehicles do not have the ability to heat their fuel supply, and if it is used (esterifcation makes it run better) it wont be clean.

HD vehicles will run on pretty much anything (i work for a major HD FIE manufacturer) running the engine test department.

i just don't believe the gain outweighs the risk

You want to see this company

http://www.uptownoil.co.uk/index.html

Big name in london selling cooking oil to restaurants, collecting the waste and refining it into something black cabs can use.

i havent talked about any engine adaptations only heating the oil with a tank heater system built into the tank or a new tank with a heater system

its an easy problem to fix if you did wont to fitting a tank heater or a new tank with a heater isent hard work! but worth doing i guess it depends how many miles you do and if you can get good clean oil (or any oil and clean it well yourself) for alot cheaper than diesel
