Default Any good....2.0 ESP PH1 Focus?

Out of interest here guys.....

I have had my 2001 PH1 Focus 2.0 Estate for 6 weeks now. She had 1 mature owner from new, full Ford service history with 114k so very well looked after.

She handles very well, goes ok but she likes fuel! I have read they are rather thirsty.

What are other Focus owners views on the Focus PH1?

Also what would a panel filter say K&N with an exhaust......Good it help release some horses? Performance is ok on my Focus but she has to be revved, low down torque my wifes Golf GTI 8v is lots better, but does not handle anywhere near as good as my Focus.

I've a 3 door mk1 focus 2.0, I feel lucky if I get 30mpg! Generally about 28.

I can get 35-45mpg on the motorway, I normally get 28mpg around town so it's not as bad as people say, it's all about how it's driven. I managed to get 17mpg out of it once when I was driving it like a mad man.

An exhaust is great but don't go with a K&N. An ST170 snorkel, 2.0 auto air dfeflector and ST170 lower airbox will release more power than aftermarket induction.

Thanks guys

I have already done an airbox mod. I put a direct 3" feed from the lower grill straight into the original input feed which goes under the airbox. I was wondering if maybe a panel flilter say like K&N or Pipercross may help? Would not touch an induction kit as they just soak the heat up!

Also.....She was owned by an elderly chap from new who drove her like Miss Daisy! Would this have an effect on performance? Best I have had so far is 125mph on my private bit of land!

She is in mint condition.....Will put some pics up later.....Almost like she has come straight out of a showroom! The previous owner used to park her up then put a blanket over her....No joke! So coming into my hands she has had a bit of a shock with my heavy right foot.....Although still gets polished and waxed!

Just make sure it's well serviced and it should be fine. A trip on a rolling road will tell you if everything is as it should be.

Tests have shown that aftermarket panel filters are no better than the Ford originals once the get a bit of dust in them. Just replace the Ford one regularly and it will flow quite nicely.

Thanks mate.....You have just saved me Ł35 on a panel filter

I service her every 2,000 miles as I am really anal like that! She has just been serviced using Castrol Magnatec 5/30 fully synth', Bosch Super 4 plugs, Halfords HT leads, Halfords air filter and an STP fuel injector cleaner.......Is the Halfords stuff ok?

Also....There is a resonater on the side of the air filter housing. I removed this and it makes a nice induction noise......But will it add power or loose it??

It won't make too much difference to power but it will suck in warm air from under the bonnet mostly when you're stationary or going slowly so you can feel it bogging down a bit when pulling away on warm days.

I tried it but soon put it back on as it sounded like a tractor with a Peco backbox...I'm exaggerating but it is quite loud.

I'd put a K&N panel filter on it, they are supposed to help it breathe a bit better. It'll last a lifetime too.

I've got one here for sale actually...
