Hi guys!!

I want to fit a oil temp gauge on my RS turbo and I need to solve some doubts before buy the gauge:

I would like to know where is the best place to fit an oil temperature sender on RS turbos.....

Also need to know the normal driving and fast driving working oil temperature on Rs turbos...

Is it right for a Rs turbos an Oil temp Gauge with scale 50-120ºc??

Id like to know the best working oil temps aswell...
Alot of people put the oil sender in the sump, i dont think this i ideal however. Ive seen 1 or 2 installs with the sender in a remote filter plate!

50-120c seems about right, i think you'd see temps aroung 80-110c, but i dont really know!

 

on my converted 2i i bought a sandwich plate adaptor on ebay and screwed the sender into there.it has 4 outputs so i put my oil pressure one in there too.normally it sits about 70-80 but when i give it a bit then it will go upto about 90ish

 

fittted to the sump will be more accurate and won't be carrying heat soak from the block.
ideally oil needs to be around 85 degrees, but can be fine over 100degrees, some oils vary in stability when they get hotter.
50-120 degree scale is fine for what you'll need.
try fitting an oil cooler with a thermostatic sandwich plate if it gets too hot.

 

If the oil is heatsoaked then that is the temperature it actually is... Which is what you need to know! lol
Oil sitting in the sump will be cooler and not a true reading of how hot/cold it is going round the engine.
Sandwich plate between oil cooler and filter is best IMO.
Temperature wise I've never seen mine go over 98 degree's even when driven really hard, normally sits around 80 degree's with ambient temps of around 20 degree's, in the winter it stays quite a bit cooler.

 

I always thought a sump sender wasn't ideal, but is often easiest with use of a sump plug with sender...

 

I use a T piece on the turbo oil feed, but with the standard sensor for the oil light on another T piece, it can get a bit like a tree coming out of your block!

 

Yeah ive seen afew like that matt, with 4 or 5 diff t's coming off!

 

90c is the ideal oil temp.I can get mine to 120c on track during the summer.My oil temp sender is in the sump.

 

Be interesting to know what it is coming out of the block if it's at 120c in the sump, what are your coolant temps like Micky?

 

Yeah mate! Very interesting to know that figures in water temps......
120ºc seem to be very high on the sump......

 

use a sump plug adaptor mate , 60-70 for normal driving and 90 for a bit more toe .


just be carefull when u run the wire up the back of the bulk head , the wire could get tangles around the stearing column !!!OOOPS

Water temp is 110C,but will get to 120C on a non-stop 15 minute track session on a hot day (over 25C air temp).
