Hello guys,
I'm working on my project EFI engine running megasquirt. I have a original MFI loom in the car. I was thinking about cutting all the crap that i don't use.
What did you guys do?
I was thinking about only leaving the lights and the watertemp sensor that controls the fan. Which of the watertemp sensors controls the fan? There are lots of temp sensors On the right of the head; After the thermostat and i believe there are also sensors on the rear of the block.
Does anybody have an electronic schematic of the ECU? I think i have some in my haynes manual, but probably not the ECU controls.
Can you remove the old ECU? Or is fan control is in the original ECU?
Cheers! I hope for some nice reactions. I'm going to start with it on friday

the one with the heavy gauge wires running through it from the fan. If you are going efi then all the other no longer required stuff will be very apparent, the coolant temp sensor for the gauge is the very small 1/8" NPT sensor in the head.
I found it pretty straight forward.
Unwrap the whole engine bay loom, using cable ties as you go (to keep the shape and branch lengths), then cut off the two ecu connectors, then pull the wires out.
A lot of the wires loop the two ecu's together, some go back to the fuse box and the others go to the two relays under the dash (ignition and fuel?).
Work on the basis that you don't need any wires from the ecu's. I also removed my fan wiring as my megasquirt is going to control my fans.
Then when all the ecu wiring is out the way and everything is insulated properly, shove the battery back in and test your lights etc, if its all okay then re wrap your loom.
Job jobbed.

Rob,
I would remove the whole loom and fit a non injection loom.
Then you will have no extra wires to cut out and destroy your MFi loom, which can be sold for decent money now days due to how hard they are to find.... because people are going round cutting them up for no reason.

Lol, how much do they go for?
i was happy to cut mine up this time round, because i could braid it all nicely. But next time i'd just make a whole new loom from scratch.

The EFI loom isn't 100 perfect for megasquirt so would need unwrapping and fettling any how and at the end of the day they have been in a hot engine bay for 20years....
