Default Ford racing water temp gauge

The water temp gauge isn't working? It lights up but there's no reading, I've bought a new sensor but the connection style is a ring crimp... So do I just crimp a ring crimp on then connect it to the sensor? Am not sure if the wire is sold copper or hollow for the water flow to the gauge to take the reading. Or am I being stupid!

Cheers,

Ric

I may be off the mark but I had a water temp gauge in one of my old cars & because I'd fitted it in to a boss cut in to a hose it needed an earth running from the boss to the body to make it function.
Granted the one I had wasn't a ford Motorsport gauge but it might be some thing to look at if your not getting any sort of reading.
Mark.

I need a new gauge, found out that it isn't a electrical gauge there for you can't just put a new sensor on connecting it via a ring crimp/ spade crimp. Apparently it has a fluid in this sensor wire or thin pipe that sends the the temperature to the gauge.

Are you sure about this cause a thin standing water line won't send good temp readings. You need flow for that. How is yours connected? If it has no ground at the moment did it work before?

Maybe there are two thin pipes in the line, but to me it sounds not the best. There is an extra risk of getting a small unfindable leakage. Besides it brings water to your electrics...

The gauge doesn't have any terminals on the back so this tells me that it ain't a electrical gauge? It just has a kind of pipe coming out the back which then connects to the sensor internally. Am I right in thinking it'll work by a capillary action?

It sounds like a capillary set up like the other ford racing gauges.
