Question FORD FOCUS MK1 1998 1.8i-16v Zetec Problem

Hi Passion Ford, When i drive my focus the Speed O Meter stops working and the car pulls back slightly and loses power and if you stop at traffic lights it will loose rev's and stall most times. Some times Speed O Meter starts working again and speed picks back up, not shure what the problem is or what might need changing.

Could you help me Passion Ford Crew

Thanks

just trying to help, as no one will be able to diagnose your fault without having a look at the vehicle concerned, especially with this type of fault. I could blab stuff like, have you checked the speed sensor and wiring in the gearbox, and have you made sure the ecu and dash is plugged in and getting a good connection, but that wont nesesarily help.

I suspect the VSS, to confirm simply drive at around 10MPH and drop into neutral AND release the clutch the revs should raise to around 1400RPM, if the revs don't raise this confirms the VSS to be faulty.

VSS in the gearbox is a very common failure on the focus and it gives the same symptoms you describe, that would be my bet!

Also defo VSS I should think, patience is a virtue when replacing as they can be very tight (So I have heard), ISCV won't effect speedometer

I had the exact same symptoms. A new VSS fixed it.
