Default 1.7 Puma Engine?

My Focus is a 1.6 Sigma.
Now I won't be doing this any time soon but it's nice to know different routes I could go down etc.
Now my Focus engines a little worn, it's done 70k of Start/Stop driving, burning a little oil but it pulls well. Next month it will be having a full servive
including timing and fan belt, waterpumps, tensioners etc. So the engine will be ok for a good while I think anyway.
Now I'm wondering how easy a 1.7 engine would drop in?
Now it's a common conversion with the Mk5 Fiesta ZS but I think there engines aren't as complicated as the Focuses. For instance the Focus has a air flow meter in the intake manifold and the fiesta has none.
I assume everything would bolt straight up including the 1.6 fly, box and clutch being the fact their the same engine
I'd be ok swaping the engines over, it's the wiring I would be stumped with.
Anyone know if this has been done on a Focus before? or how easy it would be?
Thanks, Bailes.

Hi. Pumas and fiestas have airflow meters! The physical fitment of the engine should be easy enough, wiring wise may be different. The nice thing about doing this to a zs is that they have the same fuse box as a puma...meaning the puma harness and ecu plug straight in. Not too sure about the focus wiring tbh...

I'm someone can advise... A 2.0 might be a better choice though...focus to focus conversion will be easier!!

If I was to go for a 1.8 or 2.0 it would be easier to change the car as I would have to replace the whole car loom, mounts etc.
The 1.7 would be different and theoretically would be easier to drop in

Hi, used to own a Puma.

The 1.7 Puma engine has a VVT (variable Valve timing) system. Yes, It's common conversion with the Fiesta, as its basically a Fiesta Coupe.
1.7 Puma engine will be a lot more expensive to look after, for example when I had my Puma it cost £425 to get the cambelt changed (and it has to be done at 8yrs) not 10 years like the Focus belt.

I think you'll have a few problems TBH, you may as well save up the pennies and buy yourself either a MK1 2.0L Focus ESP or ST170 if you can live with the insurance costs.

Its a nice idea though!!

A 2.0 focus (not ST170) is not too bad to insure, only group 7 I think. I've found it to be the best compromise between insurance and performance anyway. As said, you'd be better off with a 2.0 car than messing about changing yours. If I were a gold member and you were nearer I could tell you about such a car that might be for sale.
