Can i take a car for a VIC check BEFORE the repairs have been done? Car needs a rear 1/4 panel but is still useable everyday, no sharp edges etc, was only a 5mph impact.

 

They only check the id mate. We've took them before when they are still smashed. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes max. Check vin plate and chassis numbers and thats it

 

they now insist that te vehicle must be in a road worthy condition,
but if its ok to drive with no sharp edges etc then it should be ok

 

Car must drive into the test bay under its own power.

 

Yup, will be no problem. I took my dented car there and had no issues.

 

Shows how long its been since i took one lol. I dont see why it has to get there under its own power as thats not what the test is.Its a vehicle identity check after all lol

 

prob was that people were buying from salvage auctions etc then tasking them straight for a vic test, then taking them away,
so kinda made the need for a vic stupid as the car could pass the vic then be taken away and its id put on a stolen car
thats why it now has to drive and be roadworthy
i think it will eventualy need to be suitably repaired but thats to hard say what makes a suitable repair,
so for now just roadworthy is all thats being brought in

 

Thus has just set me off looking. here is some information, The general info states must be driven etc but thats for all vosa tests. under the special notes just for the vic test it says sufficient repairs to support the intention of returning to the road and that a vehicle must be able to be driven under its own power not that it actually has to be driven to the test. weve took them on trailers and trucks before and nothing is said. sometimes just after they have been jigged etc with panels missing as you cant allways get a test when you want one so have to get one when you can and never had problems. perhaps they want it to be able to drive as they take it into a workshop to do the examination on it.

Thats good to know. Thanks for the info guys. Its just a scrape down the rear 1/4 and door, very light damage.
