Smile Looking for a MK1 Focus RS - what shall I expect for £8k?

After many years of being away from the site I've managed to log into one of the accounts I had, can't remember the username or E-mail address of my first one!

Anyhow it's good to be back and people still seem to be as helpful as ever!

I'm slowly getting my feet back under the table with cars after selling my Evo 5 to buy a house, currently got a Clio 182 cup but I'm itching for something with a turbo.

Budget is around £8k, I've saw cars for around my budget that seem in reasonable condition some with a few nice mod's however these seem to sell very quickly!

Any pointers what to look for? Costly repairs to expect due to age/mileage?

Any pointers would be a great help as I don't want to be caught out by buying a 5h1tter!

Have a great Xmas!

IMO 8k should get a decentg FRS! However FRS prices are mental and over priced imo.

I paid 7500 for mine in nov 08! Decent spec and condition. I sold it this year for circa 9k

However if you look hard enough you'll find the right car. There are loads for sale and I know that if I hadn't px'd and someone came waving 8k I would've probably sold up.

You'll get a decent solid FRS for your cash, without a doubt... if you have the cash sitting there it'll be a lot easier to quickly swoop on the bargain cars which are out there.

There is one for sale on the RSOC just now, c9.5k and the guy is looking for a PX on a Mondeo ST TDCi or Vectra CDTi... been for sale for a bit, needs it gone because he's doing a fair mileage so he could be up for a reasonable offer. However, chances are you'll have to top your budget up a wee bit to get the car.

Cheers,
Grant

Thanks...

The market seems all over for them to be honest but hopefully it's the right time to make a good investment.

I'll have to arrange the funds in the new year and plan some viewings once the weather picks up, it's nice to know my budget is realistic

I should of just bought the one I viewed in 2003!

the market is all over the place with FRS! alot of the owners feel that they should be putting higher prices on them because of the limited number! i picked up mine from carlo at the beginning of the year for 8300, really good car only a few small issues to sort but mint with a very good selection of mods: manifold, new turbo, exhaust, airfilter, remap plus it had been painted. id personally get a slightly higher milage one with some mods already done as it will save you loads!

I'm not really wanting any more mod's other than a few bolt on bits, exhaust, carbon bits and maybe a remap at the most as the car will be a daily runner...

I'm even hesitant about buying one that's running more than standard boost or an upgraded turbo due to long term reliability......

Better staying away from enthusiast web sites as owners think there cars are worth more than they are,ie 02 focus with 65k for circa 9k i dont think so,keep an eye on autotrader, ebay etc be prepared to travel and you will find a good car in your budget
