I'm wondering if you wonderful people can help me. I'm plannin on next year on doing a bit of mad project. Gonna be doin a 2.0ltr supercharged conversion coming from a 1.6. Both engines are a std Black Top Zetec. I am gonna be runnin after market management in the form of an Omex 600 ECU. I will still be using the car as a daily drive. Now I am aware of the fact that there are differences but not 100% sure on what. I have been told that the power steerin pump would be different but as of what else, I'm stuck. I will be runnin a ST170 head wiv uprated cams, polished n ported so should hopefully see a good 300 bhp

 

The 1.6 engine and 2.0L are two completely different engines, everything is different, and everything will need changing. the gear box will not bolt on for a start so you will need a 2.0l gearbox and engine mounts, shafts, if you want to use the 6 speed ST box you will need to change the hubs shafts and brakes etc. Its a HUGE pain in the ass and a very big parts swapping excercise. Easiest way is to sell up and buy a 2.0L or buy a accident damaged 2.0L and swap the parts from one to another. You will probably have to swap out the interior looms also

 

Exactly as he said the only resemblance between the two engines is the name Zetec but this is where the similarity ends. You currently have a Zetec-SE (Sigma) where as the engine you are looking at is a Zetec-E, as said they are totally different, the inlet and exhaust are on opposing sides to start off with, it's easier just to buy a 2.0 outright and use this as your base.

Do a seach on here it has been covered many times before, not worth the hassle as there is a massive amount more than just the engine you need to change. Sell the 1.6 focus, buy a 2 litre and go from there!

 

Only prob guys is that I have already modded the 1.6 to my own taste so would be hard to sell it on. I will prob use a normal 5 speed box as saves any probs with changing any gear selector cables, I hope. Now I've looked at the engine mounts for the 1.6 n 2.0 and now they actually look the same to me, well at least one does. I work in a spares shop so gettin parts is actually not a prob for me. Swappin bits over arent actually a major sweat as I would call that easy as helped my mate do a 2.0 conversion in his mk3 Fezza so shouldnt be to difficult.

 

Honestly, take our advice. Have you compared these engines? The manifolds are on opposite sides of each engine. You will need full exhaust system, interior and engine bay loom, suspension, fuel lines, ecu, keys, immobiliser transponder just to name a few bits. It will be a major headache to do, and only really possible if you have a donor car to get all the bits off.

 

I know the manifolds would be different as already been told that by a colleague but all I would need a link pipe (which I can get through work) that will connect to my existin exhaust system. I will b runnin aftermarket management so I can hopefully use the same key, I will try n use the same dashboard if poss to keep the original mileage/legality of the car. As I said I can get bits from ebay/through work n various different people I know so gettin the bits arent actually a prob for me. If its just a case of swappin bits over then as I said b4, I dont actually mind doing coz I consider that a fairly easy job

 

find a 2.0 car n swap all the parts over m8

 

yeah get a written off 2.0L park it up next to your 1.6 and start spannering, you will need to swap ECU. looms, gear boxes, selector cables, engine mounts, sensors air boxes everything,

Hubs and everything, possibly even front springs and shocks as the 2.0 is a heavier engine due to its cast iron block and larger gearbox.

 

I changed from a 1.4 to a 1.8 mate (used the 1.8 as It was low miles and cheap) but bought It as a complete car It really Isnt that difficult then If your handy with the spanners I have upgraded suspension for the extra weight as already mentioned...

Basically change the engine loom and ecu (so u'll need the chip from the key for ecu)
change over your mechanicals (I used st exhaust etc so binned std 1)
The wiring going back to the fuel pump had an extra black wire which I didnt need so cut that as when It was connected car fired but wouldnt run(or use different fuel pump/tank which matches your wiring)
Fuel lines etc dont need swapping over mine are still 1.4 anyway (extra vac pipes from Inlet manifold I blanked off)
I havent had any problems cars been fine..

If your cars done how you like It go for It

 

Just buy a 2.0 and go from there would be my advice, having scrounged focus 2.0 bits for the last 12 months.

Out of interest, where are you getting a supercharger kit from as I'm after one for later next year??

 

If your set on it then go for it, just be aware what we have said plus you will need a donor car to do so anyway.

Mobb-Black, I cant honestly remember the company name now but there's a company in America that makes em but they are a well known company that makes em as was speakin to someone at Ford Fair who used this company to do the conversion on a ST Mondeo. Sourcing the parts would be prob b cheaper I would have thought for me as dont really have the money to buy a crash damaged car atm. If the situation changes, I would poss consider this as an option but no can do right now. Appreciate every's help so far n I'll post pics up of my progress wen I start it

Jackson racing said they were discontinued, will have another look.

The cheapest way of putting a supercharged 2.0 in your car is to buy a blacktop complete with box and mounts and drop it in on aftermarket management.

 

I already have a 2.0 bought, but no box along Omex 600 ECU for the management. I'm hoping I'm gonna poss c in the region of bout 300bhp which'll b more than enough than a daily drive.....mmmmmmwwwwaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh :P

 

hi mate i done this on a mate car his was the zetec se. theres a big breakers yard in brentwood with loads of 1.8 2.0l for the parts your need was easy as all just bolts up then we used the supercharger kit from cfm from the usa

 

good luck getting 300bhp out a jackson racing supercharger, even with the BBK,

it willl cost you more not buying a written off 2.0 in the long run.

 

S1, wherebouts in brentwood r they matey as dont live that far? I have got lots planned for the engine mods wise so I shall see what I get out of it, alright I fink maybe 300bhp mite b a lil bit of misestimation on my part but I'm gonna b using a vortex supercharger from the states. Can people tell me what injectors I can use n what would b best?? I've seen beige injectors on ebay cheap but not sure as fairly new 2 some decent engine mods, I've done the usual, induction n exhaust but not gone in2 the fuellin side of things

 

What pistons are you using? the standard zetec pistons and rods are only good for about 10psi and 230-250bhp and even then they are right on their limit. And before you reach 300bhp your going to have to uprate your valve springs.

 

injectors realy depends on what kinda power you arerealisticaly gonna see out it,
if you are genuinely going for 300bhp the bosch dark greens(803's) are fine,
but idealy run siemens 55's, as they'llfuell nicer down low and prob be better if your under the 300bhp,
the omex ecu will be capable of running these so thats what i'd be doing,
avoid beige injectors, far to small,
that get max'd out on a 1600 fiests with less than 200bhp

 

Sp3no, I'm gonna usin ST170 pistons with the ST170 head but I will uprate the cams n will use uprated valve springs as I believe they come with the cam kit I'd b buyin.

Jamie's: I fink I will go for the siemens injectors then only coz I intend 2 use the car every day so would prob be better for what I want out of the car, I'm gettin excited now lol

 

I would speak to your insurance company if I were you before deciding how to proceed...

A 1.6 focus with a 2.0 s/c engine would cost a lot more to insure than a 2.0 Focus with a s/c, due to the engine swap. Most insurers don't like engine swaps. A 2.0 with a s/c would jsut be a modified 2.0, not a 1.6 with an engine swap. You may find there's a big difference.

 

Tim; Oh yeh this is true but I've got nrly 7yrs no claims n a clean licence neway n my insurance is cheap neway so I'm gonna say its not gonna go up that much I wouldnt have thought

 

ST170 pistons and rods with the ST170 head will be fine for 300BHP the ST170 head has uprated valve springs and lairy cams so i would leave them alone as they will be fine for the power your looking at.

 

block will need bored for st170 pistons as they are slightly larger
