Default Where to get Megasquirt?

Can anyone help, i am looking for a megasquirt supplier in the UK, not really fussed if its a kit or already built. Was wanting an MS1 v2.2 but would go for ms3 if i had to. Looked on ebay but only saw one overpriced unit. Any help would be great thanks in advance.

Look at the Mtec V4 too, very similar product (derived from MS2) and 495+VAT including a free hour of mapping to get you going, and with pretty good customer support IMHO too to help get you up and running, basemaps supplied for most engines etc.

Ive got an MS2 on my corsa and an Mtec V4 on my clio, and the hardware is SO much better on the Mtec V4, and software is exactly the same.

But Chip, is the hardware Ł220 different? 60% increase i cost.

Thats the difference between an wasted spark MS2 and Mtech4.

you can get an ms2 from the states for 120 quid if your prepared to wait (im a bit impatient though!), i might buy a couple and sell the others. most ms2s sell for about 200 quid, 600 is a bit dear IMO mate, MS come with a base map that has always worked for my first start up too

Bill Shurvinton is the guy to buy off in the UK, very heavily involved involved in development and support. He can be contacted through the Megasquirt forums

Dont buy from Mtech, support the orginal source. Plus if you've bought a real one the forums are very helpful if you have any issues.

the answer to that depends on the context.

do the hardware components in the product cost 220quid more? probably not
is the product WORTH 220 more? Well if it wasnt people woudnt buy it.

just look at the iPhone4 ffs... Ł600 they sell that fucking thing for! probably costs them a tenner to make

i too would like to know what differences there are in the hardware for the extra money? not in the habbit of wasting money for the sake of it! if its got more functions then i can understand. At the end of the day im just looking for a basic ecu for fuel and spark, i dont need anti lag, idle control or nos control, or launch control.

IMHO yes, just to not be on a fucking connector designed for a printer not a car!
Ok its probably a 40 quid AMPseal connector, so you can argue that it doesnt singlehandedly justify the difference, but unless your time has NO value, then adding one to a normal MS2 doesnt just cost 40 quid.
The case is better too.

Microsquirt looks ok though in these respects, maybe the OP could consider that?

I'll shortly be selling my MS2 from the corsa to go over to a MtechV4 on that as well I suspect like im on with my clio.

lol, ive had my cars running in an experimental fashion, when testing or changing ecu setups with no case on the ecu and the board lying on the passenger footwell.

doesnt make it a good idea to have poor quality case and connectors for when you are building it as a finished item, fine if you just want to dick about with it, not if you want to stand back and consider it finished and long term reliable.

i wouldn't bother with Bill S, i sent my ecu to him close to 2 1/2 years ago to get checked over and im only getting it back now......but thats only because its been sent to James Murray to sort out!i can highly recommend James, again he's contactable via the MS forums

if im right in saying this he's one of the guys who co-wrote the MS1-extra code

There is a huge amount of input from the thousands of MS users on the MS forum. The connector and the case don't seem to show through as a problem on there. So if they are not a problem then why pay Ł220 to upgrade them?

The truth is Mtech are making money out of something that lots of people put their free time into making great as an open source project and not giving them any credit.

I want a good quality connector on my ecu, I dont care if others do or not, thats a large part of my reason for preferring the mtec.
The pins in the parellel printer socket that MS uses dont make a good connection and I dont wish to trust them with my engine.

I think that's the biggest bug most MS users have with MTech, it's just poor behaviour IMO.

As for the improved plug being worth the cost of the upgrade, it's not really, but I guess you can't put a price on peace of mind so I can understand Chip's reasoning. Personally I'd get the MS kit and upgrade the connectors myself.

onslack sorry to hear of your issues with Bill S, he was good for me but you win some you lose some I guess, 2.5 years is a pretty big lose !! I'd not recomend him either if I was in your shoes. If James is jmscortina then he definitely comes very highly recomended too, and yes I believe he knows the code inside out so to speak and has solved a couple of issues for me.

yup. the microsquirt uses an externial map sensor most mapsensors for that matter

also where its a smaller board they sugest that externial ignition drivers are used (edis4) to cut down on electrical noise

ive had no problems for me so far

I have found the DB37 to be perfectly reliable, and yet I have problems with AMP connectors with pins working loose in the case. DB37 used inside the cabin isn't going to give you an issue IMHO.
