Default Insurance dilamma. What would you do?

I got my evo in August with a month left to run on my frs policy. Broker said the ins company wouldnt swap it from my frs so would quote me on new policy. I asked for EXACTLY the same details and conditions. I was pissed at losing a yrs bonus for sake of 4 weeks but thought fuck it.

Insured the car on 12th August. Didnt see the paperwork arrive before i went abroad on 31st Aug. 19 days!

Get home to find paperwork saying return the signed docs. Then another letter saying return the paperwork or it'll be cancelled...erm im away and they know that

BTW it's the SAME fucking company...Aviva. I moaned to the broker and he says its a different branch or something so still couldnt keep the bonus or swap the vehicle

So im checking the policy and it excludes driving other cars which i was allowed before. This is no use to me as it's handy to be able to move the odd car here and there. Nothing underhand just handy.

I looked at the cancellation terms and the booklet says 1 month 75% and 2 months 70 % money returned. I was annoyed enough at that but thought fuck it.

So i paid £630 for the policy and approx £590 of that was to aviva i think.

So after being insured for 7 weeks how much have i been offered back if i cancel??

£260.

Apparently the 2 month 70% thing doesnt include all cancellation charges.

I'm really REALLY fucked off.

What if anything can i do?

I have been offered another policy elsewhere for £625 which i'd take but losing that money sucks.

Broker didnt give me what i asked for, was slow in sending docs, now i get penalised.

Yeah I'd kick up a fuss. Can't do any harm. Aviva are fuckers, used to work for them.

Incidentally chop, do you mind if I ask how old you are and how much NCD?

I'm getting quotes of over £600 on my Vectra CDTI, it's fookin' mental

Send in Mal to sweeten them up? Promise him a weekend break to Butlins and he'll be putty in their hands...

Seriously though, I fuckin hate insurance companies and their 'rules and regs' which they're quick to quote in broken english when you challenge them. Hope you get it sorted out mate, I'd see if there was an industry watchdog (Ombudsman?) which you can explain the situation to and ask for their help?

Cheers,
Grant

I'm going to speak to the owner of the broker and put my point across. They have been EXCELLENT to me in the past and i don't want to shit in that bed. I do understand that Aviva charges are outwith their hands but i'm miffed that i wasnt told this policy didnt include driving other cars

Normally you pay short term cancellation fees in the first year and pro-rata after. I would say that you havent had a like for like change as you cant drive other cars and I would complain about that as much as anything.

You're bloody right it is mate.

I'm 26, so a bit younger (though can't see it making much difference past 25), but will have 7 years bonus on renewal. Got one non-fault claim two years ago and no convictions.

Best I've found on the Vec is £535 annually, but works out at £50 a month pretty much.

Yet Greenlight have quoted me £428 for pretty much the same cover on a Clio 172, which is group 16 compared to the Vec's group 11.

Bought the Vec thinking it would be a cheap every day hack about, but it's a rip off. Parts cost the earth for it, insurance is mental (same for Mondeo TDCI etc too). Only good thing about it is the MPG to be honest, but I'd rather have shit MPG and a decent car, than get raped for insurance for a rep mobile!

Insurance companies are bloody con artists. It's about time someone took a sledge hammer to that industry...
