Default HTC Desire question

A mate of mine has a HTC Desire - He's dissappointed with the battery's performance, and reckons if he leaves 3G on (apparently you have to turn it on and off when you don't need it???) it kills the battery in 4 hours.

Is this normal or should he be taking it back to the shop?

Mine lasts at least twelve hours with moderate (including internet) use. Four hours doesn't sound right.

how often has he set his sync to happen? if its polling his email servers every 5 minutes over 3g I should imagine it would sap the power. By the sound of it unless hes turning off mobile networks for data its staying connected full time which 4 hours use is about right. Battery life does get better after 2-3 weeks of using it which is strange and I cant think of any reasonable reason? When I first got mine it would just last a day, now it lasts from friday night to monday morning with reasonable use.

He's had it for a couple of months.

Bit of an arse having to turn 3G/Wifi on and off isn't it!

I suspect something else is accessing the net, running in the back ground.

Not got a clue about android, but is there a task manager app of some sort, so you can see everything thats running.

send him in this direct, for a lot of searching and brousing,

Also a full reset and upgrade to the latest version of his OS will probably do wonders

you can keep it on as long as you set sync to manual otherwise it will constantly be using the connection which obvioulsy saps the battery.

Surely it can be able to access 3G all the time without having to manually switch it on? Everyone whinges about the iPhone's battery, but it sounds like the HTC is actually worse.

Mine lasts 12 hours no problem and thats with wifi and 3g on. if you spend a lot of time on the net then it starts to cane the battery. I have Advanced App Killer installed and that helped the battery life

He's barely got any apps, and doesn't go on the net much.
