With the summer here or should I say nearly gone, well with the cossie heating up I decided to make some fans for my TURBO COOLER to cool things down even more.
Thing is a dodgy thermostat was the heating problems, so I got a 82 degree one and an uprated fan swith and all is happy and dandy now.
used 4 92mm computer fans and bolted them to a 90 degree strip or alluminium (top and bottom), drilled the hole and soldered all the wiring together etc etc. I am running them from the ciggy lighter power supply with 128 mili amps used all together so they are not burning anything out.
I need to perfect the top mount which as you can see is going over the turbo cooler.
The bottom of it is held on to the turbo coolers mount in the same way the turbo cooler is mounted on the radiator.
It is a bit of a funtional work in progress. Might need a sort of seal thing to stop air escaping around the top and sides aswell
Anyway enough of me babling on here are the pics.
Opinions welcome.
Dont know if they are cooling temps down yet though?

Yeh this is a good idea. I am actually going to be doing this to my pre cooler soon. Only I will be using 140mm fans. The pre cooler alone has made a drastic improvement to the temp of my water. The fact that I am running a gt30 turbo was enough to want to get the temps down as it does like to kick out some serious heat.
I also bought the new slimline fan kit from Auto Specialists. I was sick and tired of the noise of the original fans when they came on. They are pricey but definately a great upgrade.

well today on the move i had 82 (60mph) as the lowest and 88 top and thats with msd fan switch and 82 stat i fitted today and that was after a lead foot session
(up to 85 mph foot to floor in 3rd full boost once).
the fans didn't kick in today at all, though in town they possibly might do.
the upgraded fan swith and stat have done wonders.
i put 50/50 antifreeze and water in today also once i put it all back together. thats what the owners manual says. 7.5 litres in total.
i think a drive to town tomorrow is on the cards.
i fitted the turbo cooler fans 2 weeks ago. Ł60 in parts in the end i think.
before i fitted the new stat and switch the fans kicked in at 90/91 on the secs ecu monitor and stopped at 87.
i changed the switch due to it sticking and the stat because a mate said it would be wise to.

mines 500bhp on gt3076.. few flat out runs on the way to coombe on saturday held 120 for a while to catch a mate up and never went more than 85 degrees.. when in traffic the fans cool it and turn off in about 2 mins..

Sounds good. Mine is completely fine when your averaging 50mph or above. But when you get stuck in traffic or behind some old fart (which happens quite alot over here), then the fans do their job nicely.
I was up coombe on saterday too, it was a nice run up there to be honest
.
@kossienutter.
No mate a gt30 runs hotter than a t34. Thats why the pre cooler is a good piece of kit, just cools that super hot water that comes straight out the turbo back to the header tank.

to be honest mine dont run any hotter than my old tt t38 setup.. maybe i dont drive hard enough.. mine helps cooling on the move with the tray from the back of the engine bay and tucked all the loom away.. looks a lot neater too..
If you compare the size of the turbo cooler to the main rad, you can see just how little difference this would make.
The 82C stat is a con and not needed, people are always ignoring the basic facts about cooling and concentrating on just the water.
Fact is the OIL does as much cooling as the water, so any cooling to this will have a knock on effect, "high" temps of 90/93 do NOT kill head gaskets, it is for this reason I have bought some(air) oil coolers, with a stat sandwich plate.
I have been in 28C sat in traffic for 6-8 hours on occasion, I overhetaed but not the car.
I think imo if you have a alloy rad then all should be well.
I will be taking turbo water temps, before and after to see exactly what the situation is.

(UPDATE).
i'll be taking the fans out to fit the new fan brackets that were rcommended to me (thanks cozzy jeff) and add a few other things to neaten things up. should be miles better and think the fans will have no air escaping between the cooler and the fans.
will put pics up tomorrow afternoon.

Right well things went very well apart from one of the mount brackets nearly broke in the cooler half way whilst trying to put it through the cooler.
Heres the old mount design I did.

Here I have put some 6mm aluminium tubing in between the fans plastic holes, as I dont want them to snap which they were close to doing so, on the old mounting design.

Heres the first mount through the cooler and the foam protection square bits.

And here it is fully mounted on the cooler.

And back in the engine bay.
Was a bugger to get back in with the fans fitted but I think it looks a lot neater.

Just need to trim the foam bits in line with the fans then I think it is there.
Now to see if they will do anything. I think though, they will only help whilst the car is on the move though whilst the turbo is boosting so to speak.

when i get my car back from the spray shop friday i should be able to find out if the fans do something, as i havent had time to do my own (scientific LOL) tests. if they dont work hey ho ill either keep them on for show or take them out as its only 2 bolts and 4 plastic mounts to undo.
