Signing for the deaf
Does anyone on here know the sign language they use for the unhearing, if so is it very hard to learn a few basic bits, offered to help someone out who can't hear, so be easier for me if I knew a few basics, will do a net search, just looking for advice from those that can already.
Any advice greatfully received, thanks

My misses is pretty good at it all, can cover the basics with ease and is still slowly learning more and more.
she is a care assistant at an old peoples residential home that specialises in Dementure, altzihmers and more and more now who are deaf.
in my eyes, she has the patience of a saint

my ex done makerton for her work she does and i learnt a bit when i was young due to my nan being deaf from a young age,,,,,, my dad and uncles still use it to talk to each other on the sly infront of my aunts and my mum which REALLY pisses em of,,,,,,,, and they go so fucking fast they look like ninjas waving there arms about but ment at a young age the old man NEVER had to shout at me in public aslong as i could see him knew what to do or what was coming if i didnt
its also a fucking good thing to learn with your mates in nightclubs too incase of issues and you aint sure of the situation......... unless your listening to Madonna "vogue" and everyone just thinks your a cunt who cant dance pmsl
Those sites posted are very good! I know a bit of sign language, can have conversations its not that hard tbh and am partially deaf myself and have a few deaf friends, and used to take some deaf children to school in brighton and newbury! anything i can help with just give me a shout!

Its a great skill to have, been using sign language with a service user I've worked with for years. Its great to be able to use a language no one else can understand, its like using Welsh
It's amazing how people can talk and understand using just their hands, body language and lip movement! Its an amazing skill!
Thanks very much for the input peeps, very much appreciated, didn't know nowhere near this much, happy to learn though, I only know the usual 1 or 2 finger salute, seem to get these a lot, not seen this one in BSL though!!
Been really impressed with peeps on here, ace that you help others, must be a good feeling, my hearing is ok, apart from menierres in my left ear, affecting balance, and slight tone deafness@4000hz, the normal spot to loose first through high noise exposure so I was told, didn't know till I had a free hearing test in Norwich@ the hearing aid centre, was always at the firing range when younger 11-16 yo.

no worries, anything to help and get the language recognised
The school i used to take kids to in Brighton was constantly using sign language, but one of the girls who then went onto college in Newbury was telling me that they are not allowed to use sign language during school time, only in breaks and there own time (as its boarding school) Which i thought was a fantastic way to help them to learn to communicate in the hearing world, she has changed so much since going there, her speech has come on in leaps and bounds and her lip reading is even more spot on than before!
When I was still in the Print trade, I worked in a sheltered workshop for people with disabilities, teaching them basic printing skills. (Ironically, that is where I met my girlfriend, she was one of the workers, and we have been together now for twenty years!)
Anyway, I had to go on a course in BSL, as we were employing some deaf workers, and I got Stage 1 certificate in BSL. However, as there are certain technical terms used in printing, we had to 'invent' a few signs for specialist words, but overall we got on fine. I actually found that I learnt more sign language from conversing with the workers than I learnt on the course.
Eventually, I got to the point that I could crack jokes with them in sign language, mostly obscene of course!
FWIW, sign language is always a good thing to have in your locker, you never know when you might have use for it.
Roy.
