He doesn't say it is mate.
Honestly if you're looking for a cheap S1 that looks ok from the pics... its been re shelled could be for any reason at all.
Also - wheres he gonna get an 'rs' shell from.
Its just a Mk3 escort shell the only diff from memory is between twin bolt stut tops and single bolt strut tops.
Changed between Y and A reg

That looks tidy too me,yeah,no prize winner right now but well worth 2k IMHO.would like that myself with 17" black 5 spoke compomotives, nice and old skoolish!!!
See I dont get the problem
The car is what the car is and for 2k its fine.
Dont buy it if you want a show winner or a billy bargain.
But if you want something tidy ish for a bit of fun job done - and in the same vain dont go expecting to get 4k for it when you sell it.
You know what your buying the owner has been as honest as he prob can be although maybe a bit misguided on the seats but... it is what it is.

I fail to get your point.
Ringer or re shell... how do you know???
Plenty of people re shell their cars into good 2nd hand shells and use the 'better' cars id.
To that point why would you ring a none RS Mk3 Escort into a S1 - that doesn't make sense.
Isn't a ringer supposed to be where you take a stolen car and change the id - so in this case it would need to be a stolen Mk3 escort that got rung as an S1.
It happens all the time on RS's because they're worth more than the equivilent standard car and people want to keep their cars alive.
So... if you know that its re shelled and it makes sense as to why and its priced correctly what is the problem?
In my eyes this guy has been as honest as he possibly knows how to be, the advert is poor and he obviously cant spot a good interior from a bad one but the car appears to be priced about right so I'd happily buy it if it was something I was interested in.

However.... the case that was on here a few years ago was clearly a ringer where the guy advertised a Mk5 RS2000 that had been converted into an Escort Cosworth when all to see could clearly tell it was an Escort Cosworth that had had an RS2000 ID put on it.
Thats a ringer.

Its illiegal to change the id from one shell to another unless its a new service shell for repairs.....unless he has a receipt which he almost certainly doesnt, then thats a ringer and ilegal. Its not even a good one as the shell is clearly the wrong one. The car IMO would be nothing but trouble
Ringing is just hiding the true identity of a shell with another id, simple as that.
I agree its worth the sum of the parts maybe, and obviously fine for a track car, but all it would take is a nosey MOT man with a bit of knowledge and it could ( not would ) get reported/seized/crushed etc. Is it worth the risk when theres plenty of others similar?

just my two pence but it would only get crushed or seized if the shell or the parts were stolen, period, otherwise worst case is they would put it on a q plate.
I have worked in the motor trade and know this for a fact from previous car problem.
either way lads bottom line is the car aint expensive at 2k
just my opinion!

But unless it can be proved that the shell has had it's ID altered (as opposed to having an ID given to it) then it's not illegal.
How would we go about proving the shells original ID if we suspect it is a pre 83 car which has had it's ID removed?
If it was a new pre 83 shell that then had the ID of a written off S1 put onto it at a legitemate body shop doing a legitemate repair, then it's not illegal for example.

dont the dvla run a points system when it comes to cars, all i know is your not aloud to touch id's and chassis numbers, unless it was done by ford them selves and reregistered its illegal. either way it aint a genuine shell and clearly not worth Ł2k especially as its in need of work, more like Ł1k imho
