Default Well my central days over, my cars just died :( maybe not, things are looking up

I've just been on a test drive and somethings blown up. It was fine for 10mins, went to get fuel, 25 fucking pounds worth.
Then got to my m8s house and as I put it in reverse to park BANG!
Now got no gears, oil everywhere but weirdly the engine oil dipstick is dry.
Now waiting for a mate to pick me up with a tow rope

update

i got it home and in the garage and of course started to strip it to find out whats wrong.

theres oil absolutely everywhere, and ive just repainted everything. lol

the oil problem is
cam cover gasket has blown between the cams and the spark plugs, filled the spark plug holes/lead up with oil and then the oils made its way out the little breather holes that are at the front and the back,
down the engine and at the front onto the cambelt, flicking it everywhere
out the back its got onto the clutch/flywheel/driveshafts and gone everywhere.

i didnt use a genuine ford gasket, i used a rubber gasket instaed of the paper one,
i think that when i made positive boost of about 1.5bar for 20secs, the crankcase pressure must have blown the gasket out.

so the covers off, i will try and get a new gasket locally tomorow or order a genuine 1 off mattlewis/woodford and fit that asap.

gearbox wise,
i put the box in gear by hand, turned the engine over by hand AND....
the car moves, tried 3rd and reverse, both work fine.
i think that oil might have got on the clutch stopping it from working properly, or a hydraulic problem.
will investigate that properly tomorow.

gotta have faith, i might still get there yet. cutting it fine tho, still gotta get some decent local test miles on it, and get to an mot garage, then tax it by sat.

if not i will be coming up in the trusty old M3 GT

i think the bang was when it popped out of reverse when i was parking.
i dunno if there was a hydraulic problem with the system or oil on the clutch?
it popped out of gear, has happened before if its not been put totally in gear properly.
no idea why i couldnt get it back into gear again.
will look into it tomorow night

I bought one of the rubber one years ago and fucking hated it!!! when i clamped it down the ends under the cam seals kept squashing out!!! was a good idea in principle but personally didnt get on with it. ended up with a cometic one.

If ur desperate for a gasket mate so u can get to central day ive got a genuine ford one in the garage at my parents, welcome to have that then just replace it when u get hold of another one. I work in Woking so could drop it off on thurs evening.

Just spoke to ap racing, they say the clutch fault could b the oil made the centre plate stick to the flywheel, so might just need to be freed off, but might need to be removed and cleaned with brake cleaner.
So will take a look at that tonight.

Does that sound right?

And I spoke to the firm that made the cam cover gasket, they offered me a STD paper 1 for free or pay the extra couple of quid for their version of the cometic gasket, a thin layer of steel coated with foam/rubber.
Being delivered to me tomorow.

So there's hope for me yet.

Thanks for the offer dave, I'll let u know if I get stuck.

That's going to take some soaking up! What is the best way of getting the oil out of the spark plug bores?

thats me done for the night
found a few problems.
the spline on the clutch centre plate was all burred up, so i had to file that down so it was all clean.

also i have a small metal adaptor that goes in the back of the crank where the pilot bearing goes, that adapts the renault un1 box to fit.
that had clearance probs so ive grinded that down for more room.

then sanded and cleaned the clutch cover, plate and flywheel.

now the clutch and box are all back in and bolted up.

tomorow i will get the hydraulics back in and bled, exhaust back on, and as long as the gasket turns up i will do the camcover and get it back out for another test drive.

and i have a baileys breather. never had a problem on a std cam cover gasket.

check the rocker cover isnt warped or been sanded down too much in one place, i have had customers cars where the monkeys have concentrated rubbing in one place to get rid of discoloured metal and made the rockercovers look like the pennines lol!

dont tighten it down too hard as you will damage the gasket, and i always use a small ammount of GOOD sealer, none of the "silicone" shit though.

Sean.

Maybe give the breather a check over?

If its been sat a while, some condensation might have occured and mixed with the oil to form a bit of sludge, might be the odd blockage around...

Now fingers crossed the gasket turns up today.
