Default Cosworth mot emmisions ?

Hi, my 4x4 saff cosworth is going into my pals garage for its mot next week, now I know its running far too rich as the plugs are sooty black.
Question is what should I get him to set it at (to keep it safe ) as I,ve heard that running them to lean can do them damage .
And out of curiosity where are they adjusted, thanks,Darren.

screw on ecu, co screw. should be below 3% but closer 1 is achievable (non-cat)

If you are still on the old L8, as said screw, unless cat model, it depends on whose chip you have got.
Whilst lean mixes will do damage a decent map/ecu will run under 1% CO at idle perfectly, I am on greys, T34 etc, and I run 0.97% CO, PERFECTLY at idle, smoothest idle I've ever known.

If your car is not standard 2.5% IIRC then you need to check with the chip/author what CO should be as this effects the whole map. The screw is on ECU as said unless CAT, if you do adjust do in very small increments as is sensitive, it is known as the global mod as it subtracts fuel as a percentage which is why your supposted to check AFR/Det to make sure you are not lean up top.

Make sure car is at running temp before you check, good idea to let fans cycle then off, then check.

I was going to just get the car through its mot emissions and then possibly look into having it replaced with an evolution chip and having it set up so I know the fueling is safe.

Do you think the evo chip is the one to go for,. I,m still going to run the t3 with possibly siemens 55lbs injectors,3bar map and a 500 cooler.
I,m just after a quick usable car around the 300 bhp mark.

And some people chips are just shit put simply.
If there is nothing wrong with your present bosch injectors keep them siemens will give you no advantage, other than not needing a fitting kit.
I've flow checked 5 sets in the last two weeks 2 sets were siemens, I still see no difference doing that or in use where they are the only change.
I run 300bhp, as my bottom end has 180,000 miles on it, on a T3 machined out comp housing to take T34 trim, .48 turbine, 300@17.5psi, I am on greys and have 0.97% CO at idle with 137ppm, all the can't get good emissions with greys is just complete bullshit given by people who do not know how to map corrrectly, a statement like the above would have me running away due to thier incompetence, although I do run a K3 ecu, my idle and running is 100% perfect not a glitch in sight hot or cold idles cold with no iscv as well, can get 40mpg on a run, you cannot feel the idle it is so stable, the ca ris not adjusted down to this figure for the mot, although if needed it would only be a few taps of the keyboard, there's no need, ppm shows how clean it is running, and that's with 180,000+ miles.
Up to you what chip you want, everyone knows my thoughts, the first chip I would get would be one inside another ecu!!
NMS and MSD amongst others do perfectly good chips so won't go wrong with these two.

When I did a power run at emerald with someones chip after they had also set it up, it was 10.3 AFR on a light throttle, and the torque at 4500 actually dropped like a stone as the timing was backed right off!!

Is MSD in blackpool , and is there anywhere closer to Newcastle Upon Tyne that are reliable.
The reason I,m asking is that there is a (local) evolution chip fitter near me ,I think I got that info from the msd site...ref ;evo chips-local fitting.

MSD are indeed pretty much in/near blackpool, if that's the one you want might as well go there, but if you have a local place that does stus chips they will be ok, as stu wouldn't let them otherwise as it would reflect on his name, so they will be ok.
