Default Anyone had issues with Burton Power Oil Pumps? Also Oil pressure problem?

I am having a bit of trouble with my Escort Cossie (T25) . I have an oil pressure problem, which is a bit confusing? From a cold start, it takes about 5-6 seconds to build oil pressure, which then registers on the gauge and turns the dash light off. The car is then fine, as the cold reading is off the top of the dash gauge (as it should be, the oil pump is a burton high pressure 5 bar pump) while the car warms up. As it gets warmer, the oil pressure gradually drops off (as the oil gets thinner I imagine) until at idle (approx 850-900RPM) , it is off the bottom of the gauge, the followers rattle, but the oil light does not come on. As soon as you put any RPM on the engine, the oil pressure rises quickly and the followers quieten down.....The car is on running in mineral oil, but I can't see that causing a problem??

The engine is a fresh build, and everything is brand new (shells, pistons+rings, followers etc etc), everything was measured and in spec. The only thing I can think could be the problem is the Burton Power oil pump? I have heard storys of the relief valve sticking slighly open, allowing the oil to drain back out of the system? Has anyone else had problems with a Burton pump?

i cant understand why people still have trouble machining these parts when all it takes is abit of tlc and someone that enjoys there job to get them right. Imo . I machined oil pumps for the prodrive mondeo and mct , mountune and shit loads of other top works teams along with 1000s of fast road boys over 10 years so i know its not hard to get it right

i had a faulty burton pump on a x-flow i built, this was a hp/hc pump and it wiped the crank out on the dyno but burton said its not the pump...i must of left swarf inside the motor......
so i fitted another crank, shells and a different std pump and then went on to make 148bhp.

right, i had a problem with a 4x4 cosworth high pressure pump. on examination it had a crack in the pump body, consequently inducing air into the pressurised oil system and playing my tappets up lol.
my syptoms was (also on a fresh engine) toisy tappets when warm, and 6-8 seconds to build oil pressure when shut down. actual oil pressure when warm was ok ish (1.8bar) even if you thrashed it the tappets didnt shut up, after inspection of the pump i found the crack, the pump was new aswel. anyway changed the pump and it was fine, job done. i know its a different pump to what you have described but im just making you aware of my similar symptoms and my field of fix.

i am having problems with a burton pump in my pinto.
fresh engine built, fitted last weekend.
on initial start up, after spinning up with drill through dizzy drive, recorded 160psi briefly before it blew a core plug out from behind the timing cover.
fixed this, and re-started with a different gauge. blew seal off oil filter and deposited oil on drive.
was ticking over at 105psi.
removed sump/cross member to get at pump. refitted old pump and everything was fine. (70psi at revs)
returned pump to burtons for a refund. should not be a problem, but i dont think they are going to repay me for sump gasket, oil filter, 4 litre of oil and 6 hrs labour, which i have asked them for. still waiting to hear back.

have since heard of a few other people having problems too with burton pumps.

update.----
heard back from burtons today.
very apologetic. refunding me for pump and sump gasket.
sending me 4 litre of oil and a filter, for next oil change.
adding a trade discount to my account to compensate for the labour.

Do Burton's make their own pumps then or are they sourced from some place else?

There was a thread on here a couple of days ago about a fresh engine build with a dodgy pump, wonder if that was a Burton's too?

I got a Pump from them last time i rebuilt the engine. It broken down and stopped feeding Oil into the head, that was just after 62 miles. And that was running the dam thing in. went to Norris and he sorted me one.

now i'm worried i've just re-build mine using a new high pressure pump but not from burtons (although i nearly brought one from there) and i hink my oil pressure may be down although my followers are as quiet as a mouse just think i have a dodgy cheap oil pressure gauge

Was anything wrong with the original pump? if not I'd put that back in before it all goes horribly (expensively) wrong.

burton power answer :

" Hello,
We have removed this from our Facebook site, can you please contact us through sales@burtonpower.com for any problems with parts. Please find attached the fitting instructions for this oil pump.
This sort of damage is caused by a fitting error, it is not a faulty pump. we sell lots of these and do not have a any problems with these.
regards Ian "
