Default What company does the V8 into Sierra fitting kit?

The 5.0 Mustang V8, like the S.A. XR8s had.

Some UK company used to sell the mounts etc etc to make it fit, but im fucked if i can remember who!

I thought it was Real Steel, so i emailed em and they said its not them...

Well its a Windsor small block, not much bigger than a Cologne V6 and not heavy as its a small block, fits striaght in and uses the T5 box.

Dont rev high (perfect for Ginge!), lasts for ever, and parts are stupid cheap.

Go to www.turbomustangs.com/forums/ and then wonder why we bother tuning lil engines

800bhp+ engines running single T76s and a CARB! Full boost by under 3000rpm and 6500rpm shift points

500bhp easy from a huge miles std engine with 2 scrapyard T3s bolted to it and a big carberettor and on boost from almost idle...

Infos for myself, im not building one, tho i do fancy it actually...

Someone near me is putting one (A small block ford V8, but more than 5litre and over 800bhp crom a carb n turbo) in a R32GTR shell!

Fuck knows why so many people use the Rover V8 tho, its fucking shite compared to the Ford ones, and expensive to tune too

Magnum engineering do a kit v8 into a sierra,bowth ford v8 and rover v8
but the kits arnt that good imo,ur better of getting the parts u need made
up as u need them, to what spec u want them. Iv got a 4 l rover/tvr in my
saph and its great fun and would highly reccommend doing a conversion
but like anything to do properly its not a cheap conversion

People tend 2 use rovers because they are cheap 2 buy and very light
ur right in asmutch as ull never get the same power as ford chevy but u
wont have the weight penality either. u can now buy a 4.6 rover complete
with loom for £500 ok its only 225 bhp but add a cam heads manifolds u
got 300 bhp easy , for less than a good cozzy lump and loads of torque
aswell .

Dont want a fancy engine, want a bone stock 200bhp or so iron headed POS for as little as poss.

Parts are so patheticly cheap in USA thatd be the way to go, and TBH a bog std engine with 2x T3s boshed on the sides and a decent carb n intake gets you tons more power than that, even without an intercooler.

If i did do this it would be as little cash spent as poss, jus summat to mess around in...

Magnum Engineering do the cheap kit to fit the small block Ford, but if you are good at engineering you can make up your own mounts easily.

A guy called Jim Deberry sells the fully blown XR8 conversion parts but they are a fortune.

Friend of mine has recently turbo converted his 6 litre Trans-am, used Holset turbos from truck scrap yards cheap as chips. His manifolds are just V8 truck ones turned up side down LOL!

Sticking one in a cossie would be a massive upgrade IMO.
Until you have driven a properly tuned V8 on the road and heard the soundtrack you would not understand the attraction.

A cossie off boost is as much fun as sticking wasps up your arse, a nice V8 engine does not even need boost and has torque from idle to the redline rather than the last 50% of the rev range.

The 'Magnum Engineering' kit gets the motor in the hole, but it sure aint a refined bit of kit.
I've forgotten which mag, think it was 'Fast Ford', they did an article on a V8 conversion, based on the 'Magnum' kit. The feature was at least 3 years old, try and get a back issue maybe? Someone on the forum must have a copy?
To give you an idea, they shim the engine mounts with washers to set the engine in place! Go Tiny's route, do the conversion to your spec.
If you do the conversion yourself, make sure the diff and gearbox pinion angles are equal, but opposite, otherwise you'll get a propshaft vibration. Other than that, it's a pretty straight forward conversion.... As they go!

I "did" have that issue of Fast ford but im fucked if i can find it anymore

Same as i cant find the old issue with the V8 turbo RWD XR2 in either, the only 2 good issues of Fast ford ever

Id rather buy a ready made conversion as frankly im no engineer, i cant be fabricating shit, i just want to bolt it all in

I just thought...

They use the T5 box, but i presume i need to use one intended for a mustang so its got the suitable bellhousing and the splines on the things different too so need a mustang clutch too i guess?

So i guess i cant just use someones old cossie one...

Working in the USA has given me the opportunity to drive a few V8 cars (Old and New) and without any doubt, the best V8 presently on the market is the 4.6 modular engine fitted to the Mustang/GT Mustang. This engine is a short stroke V8, with Quad Cams, and still retains both torque and rev's well. In standard Cobra Spec it produces 385bhp (Can't remember the torque). It's a fantastic reliable engine that with simple traditional naturally aspirated form, can with simple mods produce the magic 400bhp, and remain reliable for years and years. Spend a little more (About $2000 US Dollars) and you can have a shorrocks supercharger fitted, which at a sensible boost level (About 8-10PSI) this engine will again produce a reliable 450 - 500 bhp. Spend a little more, and strip the engine and fit low comp pistons along with the same supercharger and end up with 500 + bhp all day long.

This is without doubt the best V8 which is readily available as a "crate motor" and easy to purchase from any of the Ford Specialist Tuning Companies in the US. It wouldn't cost much to get one shipped over either.

This conversion crossed my mind so many times, and I did contemplate doing it, but in the end I decided to stick with the cossie engine and keep the car as it was meant to be.

It is a very worthwhile conversion, and if anyone is contemplateing spending 5k + for a 400 - 500bhp cossie engine, then for the same money the could consider using the US V8 4.6L Unit. It could be done for the same money, but with the added advantage of total reliability. Obviously a cossie should remain a cossie, but for anything else, if money was no problem and I had the time to accuire all the bits needed, then the V8 is the way to go.

I noticed a bit ago on the Ford Motorsport Parts site in the states they were selling off the older Lightning 5.7 supercharged lumps as crate motors complete with anchilleries and ECU... plus the blowers of course. Think they were going for about £3K.

That 4.6 lump is used in the Aussie Falcon XR8's isn't it, in BOSS spec?

Don't know the history of the 4.6L in Ausie, but it's probably the same unit.

Drove a 4.6L Mustang Cobra a few months back when I was at work in LA, and absolutely loved the engine. Shame about the rest of the car though. Wallows everywhere and full of plastic. Even more plastic than a cossie
