I would be amazed if it was a fault from the factory that caused that accident. Sounds like understeer followed by lift off oversteer ( or poor correction ) Bearing in mind the tyres are brand new and the owner wasnt used to the car/power etc

Sounds totally like driver error! after all he is never going to admit it is he i work for bmw if we ever had a instance like this with a new bmw someone would be flown straight up to us from bracknell from bmw & tests would be carried out on the car.
If he is blaming ford for supplying a faulty car this will be investigated big time.

Years ago the E36 had a problem of the steering column lower shaft (bulkhead to rack) failing. Result was that ALL E36's were recalled for a new lower column shaft fitting - Infact, BMW were so worried by this problem that still to this day the recall can be carried out on any E36 that hasn't had it done with BMW picking up the cost

its a lad on my local forum.... the car was investigated and found to have a problem with the "Hydroelectric brain part of the steering system" (his words not mine)

the fact ford are giving him another and a few extra pennys says it all for me!

luckily there was a copper behind him tho to back up his story for not giving it too much beans

poor fella - surely from 40/60mph the RS would stop pretty ruddy quickly once you realised the steeing had gone though
seems pretty strange and incredibly unlucky to end up on its roof!

If thats the case then fair enough im sure ford will look into this & if they think it will happen again it will cause a recall on all models

Mr Broadside has bought a stunning 328i with full BMW history - only thing outstanding is the steering shaft upgrade/replacement according to my man at Sandal Huddersfield

We had done a oil service on a E60 530d last year never done a high pressure pump recall on it because the customer couldnt do without the car. We then got a letter from bmw saying if the engine failed due to the pump it would be down to us the dealership as we let it out without doing the repair. We done it pronto

Seems like BMW are on the ball with recall stuff and don't like cars going without

If Ford gave him another one, did they take the wreaked one back, or have it gone to a breakers yard?
