i work for bmw if we ever had a instance like this with a new bmw someone would be flown straight up to us from bracknell from bmw & tests would be carried out on the car.
If he is blaming ford for supplying a faulty car this will be investigated big time.
Years ago the E36 had a problem of the steering column lower shaft (bulkhead to rack) failing. Result was that ALL E36's were recalled for a new lower column shaft fitting - Infact, BMW were so worried by this problem that still to this day the recall can be carried out on any E36 that hasn't had it done with BMW picking up the cost
