Default The Gooon has failed on track, new spec sorted

The 8 valve 2.0 Turbo Maestro Gooon Track car gave up, it seems it got a bit upset running 270bhp and 320ftlb, itsbeen a load of fun with under 8ookg and we have been running combe in a 1:22

We now have our new engine spec and its coming back next year quicker than ever

New Spec

T16 Rover Turbo Engine
Forged Rods and Pistons
Balanced and knife-edge crank

Race head with 34mm / 31mm big valves
Full port
270 Cams with Verniers
Modified tubular Ex Manifold and moddied inlet
Roller bearing T34.63 running a 2.2 Bar Peak

Gripper Diff into the K7AR Box

This spec will be near as dam it 400/400 at 796kg

So should be a lot of fun.

Hi Spikey

I know your not, we still have issues with the bias brake box, and we also have stuttering issues through the corners with the current engine

The plan is to sort out the bias box once and for all with some proper decent brakes on the front, also we wont be having the issues through the corners.

The problem with the set up as we were on carbs was we couldnt get the fueling perfect from 2000rpm to 7000rpm, we always had a comprimise on part throttle causing us issues when not flat

We are not chasing seconds as such but we know there is at least 3-4 seconds in braking and hesitation under part load

We need to do a full engine build as the goon was getting smoking as we have had it so long

We want to go to injection and on the O series it means custom manifolds, the other issue is head, the exhaust manifold and inlet are on the same side of the head

The T16 are cheap, in fact we just bought a whole 620 turbo for Ł90 for the donor engine, the rest of it is the same as we would do to the O series so no major cost increase

We just need a .63 housing as we also now have a roller core, so instead of just rebuilding it 270bhp, thought might as well just go 400bhp.

It wont cost much more, infact, due to not having to completly start fresh manifolds and adapting T series ones it may work out cheaper.

We have pushed the O series more than most, everything else is trial and development, with the T series all thats been done

There are guys running 521bhp on GT35s with no issues on a proper built engine

Be an animal wouldnt though spikey

Ha Ha

Spikey

Also to be honest we have run some 1:21s but 1:22 is average, also thats with myself and Ratty in the car, we weigh 160KG between us

we reckon very high teens if the car was perfect with brakes and no stuttering.

Let you around combe next year what its like with 400bhp and a proper dif

is it fuel starvation? maybe you need a fuel setup like mine? or a proper cell?

why is everyone going 400+ its not fair

combe times are the same for me 1:22 dropping into 1:21's

i'm altering my suspension so hoping to drop a little more

your new spec though, is going to seriously kick my ass

luca :P your just worried same as rob in his astra that a low powered french shit box is going to have a play on track :P .... pmsl

love it mate

me and my mates used to do loads of t16 conversions in maestros, there so easy and cheap power, a stock one stripped out and caged was with me in my 330bhp sierra

then he had shit loads of work done to it, management, new head, bottom end with t 16 crank, m series rods and o series pistons, t28 turbo, front mount intercooler etc

the car was insane and such a laff to drive
