Default Insurance on 2 cars - Quinn?

I want a policy that covers 2 cars.

Or I have 2 cars to insure. One smokey shed and one full fat.

Matey has a policy off "Quinn Direct" who say you are covered on any other car (not in your name) with one of their policies, including cars that dont have their own individual policy! This means they show up on ANPR cams as no ins, and get the odd tug.

A couple of people I know have this policy, and have been pulled, but the police are cool about it when they see the policy (so Im told)

Sounds like bollocks to me, but the people I know who have the policy still have their cars even after a tug not been confiscated

Whats the verdict? Anyone help at all?

The driving other cars extension is ok IF the car has its own insurance AND you are OK with the risk of damage happening to the car while you have it.

A) Because if the car isn't insured in its own right it won't be insured while you aren't driving (eg while you park outside the papershop or something) and unless I'm mistaken it would be illegal to leave an uninsured car on the street. Also, how would you buy tax for an uninsured car?
B) Because you only get third party risks covered so if the car is stolen, goes on fire or is in a bump, there is no payout for your "mates" car.

Personally, I don't approve of the any car extension being miss-used because it is already harder to get and could disappear completely.

I'm with elephant and can drive other peoples cars that have no insurance.
Only thing is to not leave it parked on the road as it's not insured without you being in it.

Porkie told me this was wrong, Elephant told me this is correct, so up to you who you believe on that one

We spoke to Direct Line because our youngest was a named driver on both his mum's Direct Line car and on my Elephant policy.

He would have two years named driver NCB with Direct Line on 9/9, but my policy was due for renewal 1/9. To take a new policy in his own name on 1/9 meant he'd only get 1 year discount, so I thought he could use his mum's car for the eight days, while she could use his car, based on her "drive other cars cover". They told her that this wouldn't be legal as his car needed insurance in its own right.

So we added his car to her policy for £30 for the 8 days instead, with him as a named driver in his own car!

Admiral/Elephant do multicar.
Why would you get 2 years no claims for insuring 2 cars for 1 year?

Iain - Must be different between companies, I did check with them.
If you're in it and you get involved in an accident, would be your insurance involved not theirs, so don't see a problem other than leaving it parked on road.

i was under the impression you could drive any other car 3rd party not belonging to you - irresspective if that car had a lpolicy or not as its the driver that is insured not the car.

Didnt know about the not parking on public road if you are not there - interesting.

I am pretty sure that you can only drive another car if it is insured.

NCB is applied to you, not your cars so you cant build it up on 2 vehicles.

Quinn are fucking useless as well.

So my insurance company lied to me?

Bit of info here: http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/What-is-ap...00000004014234

And here (hairykrishna): http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...ing+other+cars

So I'm correct as is my insurance company, how about that

i have 2 cars insured with direct line. i have 2 years NCD which is aplied to both vehicles as long as i am the only driver of the vehicle. If i wanted to add another driver to either of my insurances they will put it down to 0 NCD on the relavent car.
Ive also had insurance previously with Quinn and it does cover you to drive any other car (not van or pick up etc) not owned by you whether it has insurance or not. although as said on this thread as soon as the vehicle is left somewhere it is not insured
