We spoke to Direct Line because our youngest was a named driver on both his mum's Direct Line car and on my Elephant policy.

He would have two years named driver NCB with Direct Line on 9/9, but my policy was due for renewal 1/9. To take a new policy in his own name on 1/9 meant he'd only get 1 year discount, so I thought he could use his mum's car for the eight days, while she could use his car, based on her "drive other cars cover". They told her that this wouldn't be legal as his car needed insurance in its own right.

So we added his car to her policy for £30 for the 8 days instead, with him as a named driver in his own car!
