Plug it, and tie it up out of the way.

thought dump valves were good cuz they keep the turbo spooled up between gearchanges

It doesn't keep it spooled up - anti-lag does that - the DV simply prevents the turbine stalling, hence, slightly decreased lag.

Sort of - in my experience a VTA one is better because the hot air isn't sent back to the air box.

Depends on the size of the turbo, and whether it's well maintained or already on its way out.

I would use a GGR GpA type with filter to stop dirt ingress on idle and replaceable diaphragm, this will stop ur turbo slowing up so much between gear changes. I have one for sale at £100posted UK

you need a twin piston one when using mfi, single or diaphragm will be fine for other applications.
pistons are better for higher boost and yes i have one on my rst cab and zvh efi xr2, helps reduce the lag when changing gears on aggressive driving as the turbo spins in the same direction, unlike when you don't have one it can stall and has to spool all over again.
