I know there's a big uproar about his release and the moral rights/wrongs of it.
However, I've not seen any speculation regarding what I can see as being a possibility. OK, he's got 3 months to live, so not really on his death-bed yet, whats to stop him jumping on a plane with a bomb and putting himself out of his misery that way and taking another 200 odd innocent lives with him?
We all know middle-eastern religions are odd and I'm sure he'd rather die a martyr than of cancer.
Or have I missed the obvious?

That's assuming you believe the guy is guilty, and not actually the victim of a huge stitch-up by the US/UK Governments.
If you study the case you will see that there is no actual physical evidence against him except some dubious circumstantial evidence that even the UN observer at the trial said was weak. No evidence of where or how the bomb got on board the plane, far less who put it there.
If you remember that a US warship had shot down a civilian airliner just a few months before, and that Iran had publicly offered a reward to anyone who could bring down a US airliner, the initial belief was that Syria had carried out the Lockerbie attack on behalf of Iran. Then - for no obvious reason - the focus shifted to Libya.
The crew of that US warship were given combat ribbons after the incident and they got a hero's welcome when they returned to port, so the US bleating about Abdul Whatsits reception is a real case of double standards.
If he's guilty, he'll still die knowing he's a convicted murderer. If he's innocent, he should die with his family by his side. Either way, the religious nutters have seen how a civilised society can be better that their hunt for vengeance.
Here's a page that contains most of the pertinent info before everyone else decides the guy was definitely guilty. I accept that I can't say he's definitely innocent but I just don't believe that the trial was a proper one.

Obviously they can't prove for certain that he was involved, and if he was, he wouldn't be the guy at the top. If he was responsible though, there is no doubt he should die in jail in my opinion.
Why should he be shown compassion when he didn't show any to the 270 people he killed? That's 270 people who weren't allowed to see their families before they died. It's absolutely crazy. There are people who die in Scottish prisons having killed 1 person.
Also says a lot about the country he came from watching the disgusting heros welcome he recieved. Fucking scum.
Edited to say - For once I totally agree with the Americans point of view.

Very true m8
the problem is one person did not plan the attack it took many
now he may be guilty but there was a lot more to it than that.

When they first said he is being released to die, I thought he was bedridden. It took alot more for Ronnie Biggs to get released and he is in far worse health AFAIK.
This will all have been said already but I need to have a rant cause this angers me so much. How can a man found guilty of killing 200 odd people be shown compassion, to go home and see his family, to say goodbye to his family when he supposidly dies.
Did he shown compassion to the innocent people he has been convicted of killing? No.
Did his victims get the opportunity to say goodbye to there loved ones?
No!
He was jailed for life, that should A, mean life in prison as we no longer have the death penalty. It should also mean he has forfitted his human rights and any right to compassion.
He is terminally ill, alledgedly. So what, he should not receive treatment at our expense to prolong his life when his last days are to be spent in jail. He should be left to die in his cell and his body thrown to the rats.
I apologies to those that may disagree but this man was a convicted murderer and is now out after just 8 years to a heros welcome in his country. Absolutely disgusting in my opinion and makes me wonder what has gone wrong with this world.
Rant over.

Two words: Fuck Off.
Don't forget that the marvellous, saintly, Tony Bliar went to Libya in 2007 and agreed a prisoner transfer deal with Colonel Gaddaffi, then realised that the UK Government don't control the Scottish judiciary so although the deal was signed, Magrahi wasn't transferred/released, and the spin-doctors told us the deal wasn't about him. The fact that he was the only Libyan prisoner in the whole UK was just a coincidence!
Just to be clear, I'm no great lover of Libya - the fact that a serving policewoman was shot and killed from their London embassy, and the killer allowed to go home without ever going near a jail is reason enough to dislike them - they could have cancelled his diplomatic immunity and handed him over if they wanted to.
I'm also very happy for guilty people to be have a miserable time while they are left to rot, but in this case I simply don't believe he is guilty.
And as for the horseshit welcome he got, of course it was wrong, but it was fairly obvious that the Libyans were going to do something like that - the guy did 8 years in jail to help his country get sanctions dropped and be accepted back into civilisation.
Regardless whether you believe he is guilty or not, he was convicted and sentanced to life in prison. His conviction has not been overturned on appeal, he is still a convicted mass murderer so how can he be released?
Madness.
Madness.
well as i see it, hes being let out to say bye to his families.
did the people he killed get to see there families to say bye...er nowp, therefore he shouldnt
they should sent him out into the middle of the sea on top of a bomb and see how he likes being blown up

i think he should die how they did it in medieval times, but a bucket on top of him with a rat in, and heat it up till the rat eats its way out through him
fucking scum killing people
What compassion did he and his cohorts show to the victims of both the flight and the people of lockerbie...
My mate was in the army and he was tasked to go and assist with removing bodies from the area. He states that he came across one girl who was still strapped in her aircraft seat, but the thing that got him was that she was clutching handfulls of grass... It turned out that she was still alive when she hit the ground but then died shortly afterwards... proper screwed him up... What a sad sad world we live in
