That's assuming you believe the guy is guilty, and not actually the victim of a huge stitch-up by the US/UK Governments.

If you study the case you will see that there is no actual physical evidence against him except some dubious circumstantial evidence that even the UN observer at the trial said was weak. No evidence of where or how the bomb got on board the plane, far less who put it there.

If you remember that a US warship had shot down a civilian airliner just a few months before, and that Iran had publicly offered a reward to anyone who could bring down a US airliner, the initial belief was that Syria had carried out the Lockerbie attack on behalf of Iran. Then - for no obvious reason - the focus shifted to Libya.

The crew of that US warship were given combat ribbons after the incident and they got a hero's welcome when they returned to port, so the US bleating about Abdul Whatsits reception is a real case of double standards.

If he's guilty, he'll still die knowing he's a convicted murderer. If he's innocent, he should die with his family by his side. Either way, the religious nutters have seen how a civilised society can be better that their hunt for vengeance.

Here's a page that contains most of the pertinent info before everyone else decides the guy was definitely guilty. I accept that I can't say he's definitely innocent but I just don't believe that the trial was a proper one.
