Not sure if this is in the right section or not?

I have some Genuine 1973 Porsche fuchs wheels.

Im trying to detail them, with some polishing.

They have been polished some time ago and since keyed up and painted.

But after stripping paint the mirrored finish is still visiable

My thoughts are to go over with say 1500-2000 wet and dry then metal polish??

I may make up a spinner from an old hub so i can have the wheel spinning, as I think this will speed the job up signifgantly!

Anyone eles have experience before I start, as i dont want to damage/make worse the finish I have so far!

 

Do all the hard work with wet and dry before you try the polishing mop as this will save you alot of time

Go in stages from 1000 grit up to 2500 depending on how rough the surface is

 

reckon i can start on about 1500 or 2000, as said it was pre polished, just been painted over and lightly keyd.

 

i used commandant 4 and unipol for my truck wheels. bare alu.

Right i thought they sold it in the uk to. Commandant is a cleaner. Gets the rough layer off. With unipol you can polish the alu after. Works perfectly. No sanding needed cos you use Commandant for it. But don't know if they have it for sale in the uk tho. Unipol is like 28euro for a liter. And commandant 14euro or something.

Just wash the wheels. Get all the dirt and sand off and get busy with Commandant. After that you polish it with unipol and ...well youve seen the pics. Those wheels didnt got a cleaning for 6 months. On the pics i took about 1 hour per wheel.By hand. using a drill speeds up the proces tho

 

 

Btw after doing this ones. you only need unipol for maintenence

 

Thanks for that, Yes we have unipol over here, Ill see if my paint shop sell it tommrow as ive got to pop in for some primer and hardner anyway

It is expensive tho. Well here it is. But you don't need much.
