Default steven gerrad then, guilty of innocent?

if, and it's a fairly clear "if", he is the guy in the video giving it fisticuffs to that fella his mate twated in the face, he should get banged up for a few months at least

after that, booted from the club, not suitable roll model for kids, etc

you could imagine what the other fella would get if he'd done bust up young sweet innocent stevie like that so fair's fair

on the other hand, if it was someone else who's given him the kicking then all bets are off

what gets me though is that he said it was "in self defence"

anyway, i'd like your thoughts on the matter, or links to the original post if this has been covered before

It's not right he's even in that situation. Why is he out drinking in a chavvy club with his chavvy mates the night after a game...any professional sportsman would be recovering properly and having fun another day.

He should be stripped of the captaincy at least.

ps. There is no doubt he is a footballing hero and probably one of Englands finest ever players but that is not an excuse

He's out drinking like a chav because he is a chav

I hate how these gimps get paid millions each year, and get away with all sorts, acting no better than most neds in Glasgow

Video is inconclusive, but it looks to me as though ; ( Victim is sat down on left )

Manc DJ guy is sat down after the original argument over the music control.
Gerrard goes over and they have a heated discussion.
Gerrard is leaning over him in an intimidating way
DJ bloke stands up and they go face to face
After a few seconds Gerrards pal comes over and smashes him with an elbow
Gerrard then gives him 3 uppercuts.

That what i 'think' i can tell from the video, but could i be 100% sure its him, with all thats resting on it?....no.

As a Liverpool fan im a little worried by it, to me it looks unprovoked...and certainly seems like a genuine case of affray.

He has pleaded not guilty, and i think he will get away with it purely on the basis of the tape being poor quality, and the guys testimony changing throughout (because he wasn't sure who did what).

From a footballing point of view i obviously want him to get away with it though!

He's an average scouse lad through an' through, that doesn't necessarily make him a chav. He just happens to be one of, if not the most gifted players in this country at the mo.
Let's face it, a lot of people on here will have given someone a bit of a dab in a club or pub for acting like a cock. Are we role models, if it's caught on poor quality grainy CCTV.!?!?!?
The statement said the other bloke took offence when Stevie said ''(scouse accent) ere lad, hand over the card ere lad'' and he didn't like being called lad. Uhhhhhhh hello, most common scouse dialect going, and I'm a Scot living in the South West FFS.!!!
I just can't work out why it's got to court. He'll ( Steve G ) have the best of legal people, the ''victim'' ( remember this could have been the intention ) will get a considerable bung to shut up and fuck off back to normal.... probably Ł50k to the good.

Baiting a celeb in a bar in front of a camera, not difficult is it.?

don't know about any links but his mate comes in from the left with a right elbow to this guys face and then, as he's getting up, gerro's got him by the scruff of the neck and is dishing out several uppercuts while the guy is doubled over

assuming it's gerro who's in the picture and not someone else

Before people get on there high horses about this, just think back to any time you have been out on the lash and done something you regret, imagine someone showing CCTV footage to you the following day....i bet you'd be pretty surprised at how you acted!

I know i've done tonnes of stuff im not proud of, and much worse than whats shown in that video to be fair, sometimes its easy to lose control when your pissed!

the bloke who did the elbowing.. is that the same person from behind the bar that looks over then walks round out of camera view.. ?

Either way, it's all bollox in my opinion. Innocent until proven guilty.

Club Captains are yes. They attend lots of events and do lots with Kids and charities etc. Club PR is massive these days.

If I was paid Ł100k a week i'm pretty sure I could keep my nose clean
If he had half a brain he wouldnt have even been there, thus limiting the chances of a situation like that even happening.

He's a very silly boy

I agree to an extent, but in all likelihood all he has done is gone to a bar he visits regularly and had a few bevvies to unwind. Remember footballers are on pretty strict orders from clubs day in day out, and having the chance to go out and unwind is pretty rare.

On this occasion it's gone wrong, but i wouldnt say Gerrard is the type of person who goes out that regularly.

Can't condone what happened at all, but these people are still human, and still like the odd beer!

I'm pretty sure that Jennifer Ellison said she dumped Stevie G because he was a boring twat that concentrated too much on training and football and DIDNT chill out much or go out a lot.

Any fucker with money will get away with breaking the law, because they can afford very good solicitors, I'd doubt very much if he even gets fined.
If you move to the US you could even get away with a double murder like OJ if you can afford it.
Evertime a footballer is up in court for doing a zillion miles an hour past a school, they only get banned for like a month, you or I would get royally fisted for a similar offence.

totally agree with you but that could be because i dont drink myself or like others drinking, i think its a waste of money and time!

gone down a little in my estimation, still like him but didnt like the footage seeing our club captain and my fav player drinking getting pissed the same day of the newcastle game

forgot to add having seen the full footage the elbow defo isnt him thats someone else but the guy who does the three uppercuts i am really unsure of as you canot make out who it was, gerrard wearing a greeny/bluey jumper with collars of a shirt sticking out at the top but the guy who's giving the upper cuts looks like he got no jumper i.e just a white shirt!

Affray carries a maximum 5 year jail sentence as far as I can remember as one of my mates got charged with it after a tear up in a local chinese on a saturday night..

but when was the last time you heard of anyone getting a maximum sentence? or indeed getting jailed for such an offence ? that will happen in every nightclub in every town every weekend. its a minor scuffle and likely only actually came to court because of whom it involves.

True, normally no more than a night in the cells to cool down. My mate got a 2 year bindover so if he got done again within 2 years it was off to prison for him.

i think he probably did beat the shit out of him but i dont think he was swinging uppercuts like a pro boxer.lolll with no gloves on and uppercuts that powerful would have damaged him really bad i reckon the beaten man wants a wedge of cash imo anyway.

based on the evidence (i.e. video footage) you cannot say he is guilty.

based on testimony it depends how good each lawyer is at getting the witness to slip up.

It could go either way...."Victim" may just be wanting a bit of a payout for something Gerrard may have done...Gerrard could have been a very naughty boy. We'll never know 100% what happened.

i think its different up here, the accuser can press charges down south rather than the cps deciding whether to persue or not with the victim having no say in the matter other than having to give evidence if nessesary?
