Default advice needed- inlet manifold and plenum

having my inlet manifold and plenum powder coated soon and was gonna do them in black but a friend has told me this is a no- no as it will attract too much heat?

will it really make that much difference? surely the huge radtech cooler will be sufficient to cope with any inlet heat?

ok but i think the point he was making was that the black colour will attract more heat and therefore raise inlet temps

black absorbs more heat correct but it also dispurses heat faster aswell.

hence why all rads are black, 500 coolers are black.

no difference what so ever, the air flowing through the internals of a turbocharged engine travel at 100's of MPH i hardly think the fraction of a second it spends in the inlet is going to warm it up that much.

especially as air charge temps should be about 30-40 deg by the time there there, so hardly hot

anyway, the plenum and inlet manifold are heated by conduction from being in contact with the head. doesn't matter what colour the powder coating, it will act as an insulating material on the surface of the aluminium. this will stop the parts loosing their heat to the surrounding air, rather than stop any heat pick up from it.

as said, the air spends so little time in there that i wouldn't worry about.
