Look at the past auctions for an idea.
I'll be going later this year to try and get 81 TR, at the moment they are upto 79 TR. They have been doing 1 per auction going up each time for ages. Knowing my luck they will stop ater this one

Guide prices are very hit and miss mate. I have seen 2k guide plates sell for 450 (their reserve) and 250quid guide plates sell for 25k!
Have a pop at any that your interested in and set yourself a max bid amount AND STICK TO IT! (the hardest part imo lol)

I did bid on plate at their last auction. I didnt go to the auction in person as I couldnt get there as working, just posted my bid in writing, sadly I bid my max of £3,600 and it went for £3,650. I thought i'd be safe going £100 over £3500, but as I wasnt at the live auction I missed out. Nevermind. Starting price was £500. I did win another plate as no one else bidded on so did o.k on that one, not one to keep, one to sell on and make some money on it one day when the credit crunch is long gone.

I have been to a few plate auctions and you would be very surprised at what plates go for cheap money.....if they go at all...
I am going to the next DVLA auction as it is about 2 mile up the road from me.....
