Now I'd like to make it perfectly clear that this is not connected with anything that has actually happened, lol Just I found myself debating a point with someone a couple of days ago.

What I want to know is, can you be done for indecent exposure in your own home if you were simply getting undressed to go for a shower or something like that, and someone caught a glimpse through a window. Imagine that you are visible from a couple of houses across the street through their upstairs window into your upstairs window. The houses are a good 50 metres or more away and it's not as if you're majorly in each others face, but you could see everything in a fashion.

(Note: There's no one else in with you. You're either on your own or with other people that live with you. IE/No guests).

 

I wouldnt of thought so... unless it is a regular occurance!

Nah, the conversation only came about because I've just had new windows fitted in my house and at the moment I've got no curtains up as had to change the fittings. And I was told I should be careful of getting changed in front of the window in case someone saw in and I could get done for exposing myself, lol.

And I said surely that's bollocks in my own home?! If I was actually dangling my tackle out of the window or performing a lude act where people might see then I could understand that! But surely I can get changed in my own house without having to worry about what people who'd have to be staring in and invading my privacy might catch a glimpse of!

 

I know a guy who was in a bit of bother after a young girl (14/15) was telling everyone she'd seen him naked etc but wouldn't say how. Turns out she'd seen him through his window when he was getting changed.

As far as I recall, its basically intentionally exposing your genitals and intending that someone seeing them will be caused alarm or distress..

So yes you can be done in your own home.

If you display them on full view, knowing that someone is there to see, then that's obviously indecent exposure, no matter where you are.

But if you're simply going along your everyday business, not thinking too much about anything, and someone happens to catch a glimpse (which they'd have to look pretty hard to do), then surely that's not right? To me anyway

Its entirely down to how the person who saw you (or your friend) interprets the story, if or when they decide to report you. It could be quite malicious, but the person making the complaint could be quite believable, thus landing you in the shit!

 

Then its not, as you havent intended to cause some alarm or distress... maybe the other person is into a bit of Voyeurism

Unfortunately, it never works out that. Regardless of the fact in was accidental, if the whinning members of the public report something that's inappropriate and over exaggerate it, then there will be typical questions such as "where there any under age children present?"

 

If your house is opposite a school and you are wandering through the living room naked I should think you have a serious issue, if its an upstairs window and not majorly overlooked, ie someone trying to look in, then im sure you are fine.

One of those "grey" areas really, you wont get a definitive answer from anyone on it as it will be down to the magistrates interpretation of your intent etc.

 

As long as your not stood gyrating your hips at the window you should be fine.

Put it this way, one of the windows in my bedroom looks over onto a school playing field. I step out the en suite shower stark bollock naked most days when i'm not working at 10:30ish when the kids are out, and i've not ben done! (yet)

I had a visit by the Police last year regarding something along the same lines as this,
Been out on Mountain Bike, got proper shitted up, goes in through the back door, strips to me boxers in the kitchen to put me muddy gear in the washer, walks through the house to go for a shower, didnt notice if anyone was walking past the house, wasnt really bothered TBH as I wanted to shower,
Couple of hours later I got a visit saying I was parading around the front room in my naked apart from my boxers when there were kids about.
