No, as far as the DVLA care

As long as it's Declared SORN its ok

You will only have a problem with the landlord if it's explicitly expressed in your tennancy agreement that you cant store a car there

either that or sorned mate, the tax on the car is only applicable to the car itself so rented house isn't relevant.

i also heard this....not to sure on if its correct or not...

If you have a car parked on the road, but with a car cover on it........the police/Tax people are NOT allowed to move the cover.........so that if it is not taxed then they cant look under the cover to see

Not that it applies to me, but i read something like that .....more than likely on here

I know this rule applies to motorbikes. With bikes you are also allowed to remove your tax disc when the bike is parked up, saves someone robbing it!

as long as the vehicle isnt causing an obstruction that is correct .
and with the renting thing , as long as the land owner has given you permission to keep a vehicle on the land its ok .
just been through all these laws with my solicitor regarding my council trying to stop me parking outside my house .

CHECK THE CONTRACT

my one says that any cars kept on the grounds must be taxed and in a road worth state! it seems a pretty standard part to stop a scrap yard appearing, so im sure if you got a written exception it would be fine! HTH

I have never heard that the police are not allowed to remove a car cover!surely they would have the powers?or maybe a custom and excise officer only has the power?

On a different note, if you have your car parked on your own private property and the tax has run out, do you HAVE TO declare SORN?

What about car dealers? Most of the cars I looked at on Autotrader, etc. come up as untaxed.

it don't matter if the car is covered or not, the fact that's it's not been declared sorn will mean that the owner will get a bill

That is the correct answer.

No its not illegal to have an untaxed car sat on your private driveway of a rented house, but it MAY be not in accordance with your contract on the house.

If it is breach of contract on the house, its a civil matter, and doesnt involve the police or the dvla in anyway, its essentially the same as if you kept a pet at the address when the contract says you cant.

I beleive that is one of those weird things that is technically correct, but I also believe that the rules for the tax disk state it must be clearly visible, if it isnt clearly visible then the vehicle can be towed for not displaying a tax disk.

So while they might not be allowed to lift the cover and look, I believe they could legally tow the vehicle away, taxed or not!

Keeping an untaxed vehicle on that drive may well breach the tenancy agreement but thats a completely different issue from DVLA and tax.

No plod can't tow, car as technically they can't establish the identity of the car without removing cover to see the number plate.
Also if you are about to get car removed onto a lorry after being clamped jump in the car, as they are not allowed to lift with someone inside.
