A bit of game theory for you
A little poser for you all.
Three people; Adam, Brian, and Charlie enter into a duel with each other (truel to be precise!) - a three way duel. Rules are that each person takes a one shot in turn, last man standing wins.
The rules state that the worst shot goes first, then the next worse, then the best shot. This carrys on until only one man is standing - the winner.
Adam is the best shot, Brian the second best, and Charlie is the worst shot, so Charlie goes first.
Who should charlie shoot at to give himself best chance of survival?

adam because, he shoots him, then its brians shot, so charlie has a 50/50 chance of brian shooting him, (more likely than not as charlie didnt shoot at brian)
then its adams shot and again there is a 50/50 chance of shooting charlie as brian has also shot at him
ooh forgot to mention, because charlie is a shit shot he may miss adam and if brian shot at him and hit (more likely) than adam would want to get him back !
just one that pooped into my head real quick may be well wrong ha ha

It depends on if he's good enough to hit the target.
When Charlie shoots first, there are four possible outcomes:
Target Adam, HIT Adam
Target Adam, MISS Adam
Target Brian, HIT Brian
Target Brian, MISS Brian
Charlie has a 50% chance that he will score a successive hit. This applies to each person in the group when it is their turn. However, looking at it a different way, the person being aimed at has a 25% chance that they will be hit. So, ultimately, the best way for Charlie to survive is to miss his shot.
It's more likely then, that Brian will attempt to shoot Adam. If he is sucessful, then the gun is passed back to Charlie who still has that 50% chance of sucess.
If Brian were to be shot by Charlie, then the gun is passed to Adam and he is unlikely to miss his target of Charlie.

He shoots Brian in which it makes Charlie the next worst shot, so then he takes Adam out with his next shot.
Wadddooo I win

Interesting answers, but not for the right reason.
The key here for game theory is that you have to make a few reasonable assumptions.
Charlie should simply shoot straight up into the air, but most importantly not at either Adam or Brian.
The logic here is simple - If Charlie hits either Brian or Adam, then it will become the surviving persons shot next, with only one target - Charlie!
However, if Charlie hits neither, it is reasonable to assume that Brian will make the same assumption that everyone else has, and would do - that it is better to risk being shot at by Charlie, than by Adam. So Brian will logically shoot Adam.
This means that it is now Charlies shot again! This only leaves Charlie to shoot Brian (if he doesnt miss!!!)
The issue here is that assuming that all will hit their target (as is often the way in a duel given the distances involved), whoever shoots someone else first pretty much guarantees his own death.
Cool, eh!
